[1.187.2] Multiple recurring bugs in dedicated server
Congratulations, Keen. You did it again.
I keep coming back to this game every few months. To check what's new, to check whether previous issues have been fixed. And every single time you manage to promise moving one step forward, but move three steps back instead. Let me get to the point, about this new "Improved" Multiplayer Update you pushed recently.
- Connectors are wack. Again. Lots of sparks from collisions that weren't even there half a year ago. I can once again forget moving a large ship with a small ship attached for fear of both of them being consumed by the void.
- Landing gears don't work 90% of the time; tested on small and large ones, with ships, debris, asteroids, you name it. It's really, really random now and I can't even transport ships over short distances like I useds to be able to do. What scares me is that there were pretty much never real problems with landing gears for me, this is the first time it's this bad.
- Desync and rubberband issues between server and client. Now whilst that is understandable and certainly nothing new, I am the host and the client on my machine and it worked fine for a long time. The main example is noticeable when taking over pirate ships (the Argentavis in this case) and holy christ did it rubberband all over.
- Mining is semi-broken. Again. Sometimes it just stops mining, both by hand as well as with regular drills, and doesn't continue until you move back and forth, or up and down. Didn't happen half a year ago. I remember similar issues 2 years back, but even back then it wasn't this bad.
- Welding and grinding has similar desync issues all over the place. To make matters worse, sometimes it doesn't work at all even when stationary, until you find that one miniscule sweet spot where it magically welds what you want to, and realize you're half a block next to it instead.
These are just the major issues that made my few hours of gameplay today pretty goddamn annoying. And honestly, I wouldn't mind it that much, because I've been through this same phase again, and again, and again, and again. But after all this time, you managed to regress so much over all the progress you made in 4+ years that is actually frightens me.
What happend, Keen? I loved this game, even despite all the flaws and issues, and late-night hotfixes. The low-key anger and disappointment, followed by countless bug reports that same night. I just wanna keep playing, but I can't play something that gradually breaks more and more over time.
Whilst I'd love to spend another whole day testing literally everything I find with different configurations as I used to, this has become such a recurring trend that it is almost useless. You are the developers, not me. I want to play 90% of the time and spend 10% of my time reporting things, not the other way around.
One way or another, I really hope you guys get your shit together.
