[Dedicated Server] Unable to Control Drone After ~50km

Note: upon further testing, it seems the issue may have been a lack of sufficient grid power. However, there was no indication in the terminal that suggested there was not enough power.

For some reason, despite having a connection to the drone via two laser antennae, I cannot operate the remote control block. Strangely, I can only connect to the drone's terminal system if my spectator camera is in the area of the drone. If my spectator camera is not present, then the drone has no connection despite having two laser antennae with infinite range.

Once the drone got further away from my base, the laser antennae completely broke and refused to connect at all.

It should be noted that this extends beyond just drones. I've had issues remotely connecting to my base from space before, despite being in antenna range.

Current behavior:

  • Remote grid can only be connected to if the spectator camera is in the area
  • Remote grid can be rotated manually with gyro override once connected
  • Remote control block cannot be controlled despite connection
  • Thrusters can be manually overridden

Expected behavior:

  • Remote grid should be accessible through laser antenna without loading the area with a spectator camera
  • Remote controller control function should work properly no matter how far away the remote grid is
  • Laser antennae should connect successfully regardless of distance with distance set to infinite so long as the grid has sufficient power

Technical details:

  • Dedicated server v1.206.032 b0
  • Client version 1.206.032 b0 default

It's at about 180 clicks out, and I am unable to get the laser antennae to connect. Even pasting coordinates isn't working. I can't paste GPS coordinates into the laser antennae. The antennae just keep wobbling visually and don't connect.

I am not part of Keen. Default range of laser antenna is 50km. You should make sure the laser antenna range is valid and properly powered for that range.

Currently conducting a test in the server...

If this is a power issue, which I think it might be, there needs to be a "not enough power" error message.

I made a test platform and a test vessel using creative tools with an excess amount of power, and I'm still able to connect to it over 180kms out.

That said, the behavious of the laser antennae was buggy. When I had my spectator camera near the original drone, suddenly the antenna would connect, but as soon as my camera was back on the ground, the drone would loose connection.

My test setup didn't exhibit this behavior though.
