[REVERT PATCH CHANGE] "Fixed an issue where the Hinge would accept a rotor head as an attachment"
In Progress
Update 1.206 - Fieldwork
- Fixed an issue where the Hinge would accept a rotor head as an attachment
Broke all this amazing stuff that we could do!
Please unfix this!
Right u-joint lived for a single day before being patched out of existence

I figure just saying: i want this change reverted, isnt really fair. Its clear that its considered a bug at this point.
Why do i want this feature to stay
With rotor and hinge attached to the rotorhead at the same time:
- Its a way to have the hinge go beyond 180 degrees of rotation. (full 360 if needed by locking the hinge and using the rotors motion)
- Its got multiple ways to add extra attachement points on all sides
- It can change rotor offsets to allow for more uses for the 3x3 hinge
- It allows for the most compact u-joint design i have seen ingame
- It allows for piping on the left and or right side of the centre instead of only forward.
With the 3x3 rotorhead, you can see from one of the pics that i have a fully 360 rotating reloadable rocket launcher. you just cant have that without this feature.
Its been 5 YEARS since we last saw any new mechanical features being added (SE v1.195), so clearly your not gonna add any more cool stuff, so please, stop removing our toys!
Or atleast, if your gonna remove our toys, give us something to replace the functionality of it!

just why? why did this need fixing this one hurt no one. yes it's not intended use for hinges but just why???

Fix this and give us Share Inertia Tensor back to default settings.

Some of the best turret designs use the hinge-rotor combination. Restore it to what it was!

This was an epic game feature even if it was a bug, with the general response from the community generally being; “Oh that’s a bug? Well it serves my purposes well so whatever.” I feel like removing this was the complete opposite end up the spectrum. If asked / brought the general attention of the entire community I’m very certain this would get voted to be added as its own feature instead of “a bug” Lol.

so many bugs and issues to fix, why fix one that seems to actually benefit the community???

I have over 5k Hours, and one of the MAIN ways I construct my turrets for my ships is to make use of this - I don't think it's an exploit when it's just clever engineering?

I appreciate the attention space engineers 1 is getting in the midst of developing space engineers 2, but I don't think "fixes" like this serve a purpose other than to fill out the "fixes" portion of an update.
Please revert this specific change

Throwing in my two cents.
Please consider reverting this change, the Mech Community relies on little exploits like this to do the things that we do.
Or perhaps make it into a world settings like the "Super Gridding" exploit so players have to option to use it if they want to.

This "fix" did more harm than good. I agree with the OP that this should be reverted to allow the great engineering solutions it enabled.

I don't see why this was a bug in the first place
The fact they could connect was because rotors and hinges inherently use the "same" system, just in a different form factor. Hinges got introduced in the first place because making your own hinges via rotors wasn't intuitive, took a lot of space and was fragile

Hi everyone,
We’re aware of the recent issue where the hinge no longer accepts rotor heads, and we understand it’s causing frustration with the fun mechanics it enabled.
The fix was initially implemented because large grid rotors and large grid hinge heads were combining in ways that led to crashes, clanging, and explosions. However, we overlooked cases where this mechanic was working well.
We’ve reviewed the options and made adjustments to keep things fun and functional. When the hotfix is released, the following will apply:
Large grid hinge WILL accept:
Medium hinge WILL accept:
(LG) Hinge base WILL NOT accept:
(SG) Hinge 3x3 base WILL NOT accept:
(LG/SG) (Advanced) Rotor bases WILL NOT accept:
(SG) Hinge base WILL NOT accept:
We appreciate your patience as we fine-tune this.
Thanks for your understanding!

Wait, that list looks like it's missing small grid small hinge base connecting to large grid rotor part (advanced or basic). Please include that combination; it works without clang.
It's also actually safe to attach a small grid 3x3 rotor part to a small grid hinge base. Please reconsider and allow some of the rotor parts to attach to the small grid small hinge base.
