Ship falling when a rotor is connected

If a rotor is connected to your ship with a load on it, and you are in a natural gravity well, the ship's inertial dampeners will not hold it up. I do expect it to drag one side of the ship down slightly more than the other (due to torque), but the dampeners should still be able to hold this ships mass + rotor mass up off the ground. I also would expect gyroscopes to know when the rotor is exerting a rotational force on the ship and then be able to automatically fight it.


This also affects turning using gyros. the ship will roll and pitch and yaw in undesired directions based on where the excess mass of the rotor subgrid is.

This is a longstanding issue, I believe there's other tickets for this. IIRC the "jitter" in the rotor's connection to the main body of the ship causes the main body to get pushed around very slightly. In a gravity well, this jitter trends downward, so although the math for the thrusters can accommodate the added mass of the rotor, it's unable to handle the added jitter of the joint pulling the two bodies around and will gently drift downwards. As a stopgap, you can drop into a hover mode using AI flight blocks.
