Steam saying cloud is full when attempting to change thumbnail of a workshop item

David Cooper shared this bug 2 months ago
Need More Information

Firstly back around Christmas I attempted to upload my first item to the steam space engineers workshop and it failed. After a lot of struggles I got items to upload but only if they do not have a thumbnail in the file folder when uploading after months of trying different methods to resolve this with no success I found a program called steam change preview (can link if necessary) and it says it's unable to upload due to the image being more than 1mb (it's 45kb) or my steam cloud is full. Finally a straight answer I thought. I then went and checked my steam cloud for SE and it indeed was full so I deleted a bunch of unused things until I had 95.5MB available and went to attempt to upload again and it still gives the same error. I can give any pertinent information or anything else needed I just hope this problem can be fixed somehow so I can share my epic build with this amazing community.

I hope this reaches you well

Best regards,

David

Thank you so much!!! Iv actually found out some additional information that you may or may want to pass on to the next team. It would appear that my steam remote storage has over the maximum 200 files on it and as a user I am unable to delete any of them and I've read and heard from one of the devs dan2d3d (who was fantastic by the way) that having over 200 files there will produce this issue as well.

Thank you again,

David

Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out to our forum.

Could you please confirm whether you checked if the thumbnail size exceeded the 1 MB limit when the other program showed you the error? If so, did you try resizing the thumbnail to bring it below 1 MB? If not, please first check the blueprint's thumbnail size by following these steps:

  1. Open the hidden folder "%appdata%/SpaceEngineers/Blueprints/" and find the folder containing your blueprint. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud),
  2. Open the file named either thumb.png or thumb.jpg and check its size.

If the thumbnail exceeds the 1MB limit, you may need to reduce its size before uploading (please note this restriction of thumbnail limit is enforced by Steam, not the game itself).

To resize the thumbnail;

  1. Open blueprint's thumb.png or thumb.jpg in MS Paint (or any other graphic editor of your liking) and simply resize it smaller.
  2. Resave the file and overwrite the old file so that it is less than 1 MB in size.
  3. Then try publishing/uploading on Steam Workshop again.

Please let us know if you can publish the blueprint once you have a thumbnail below 1 MB. If the issue persists, send us a screen recording/video showing the issue. Make sure the Steam Change Preview program is not in use. Additionally, share the affected blueprint file and the log file from when the issue occurred.

  • You can access your blueprints files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.
  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • If you are having difficulty attaching the video files here, you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind regards,

Yes the thumb file is less than 1mb, I'm unable to publish if the thumb file is in the file folder at all but as soon as I remove the thumb file it posts no issue at all iv also made sure that the thumb file is within the resolution constraints of the workshop as well

Is this still under investigation? I posted the pertinent information to the forum that we were speaking on before was I supposed to link them in the email? If so I can do that as well
