Option to disable weapons not working

Matti-Pekka Nuorva shared this bug 4 years ago
Reported

I tried to make a new world with weapons disabled in world options. Long story short, for some reason I noticed that turrets were still seeking targets, and merrily fired away when an enemy target was provided. This led me to test actual weapon blocks as well, and sure enough, they too were working, despite the world settings claiming weapons are not enabled. Is this a bug or a feature?

I tested this on several scenarios and all forms of weapons work even with them disabled. the option is entirely non-functional. This unfortunately means I can't work on my game save right now because I have salvaged red ships everywhere that shoot me dead before I can get into them to power them down.

Any update on when this will be fixed? It's kind of a game breaker for me. Thanks.

Hi Keen Team!

I just tested this one after a Member asked on Steam and noticed that it was working once I got very close to the enemy turret but not at 600m and going closer.

Star System world, default Survival settings :

Just tested this again. Space pirate drones and bases will still merrily plug away at you and chase you down. It's like they know they can destroy you and there's nothing you can do about it. Please fix, would love to play the new material.

We can fire bullets and missiles manually through control panel's "Fire" option even world setting disabled Weapon...

I'll leave a comment here after the Steam one. Because it's a serious problem to me.

I come to play a science game, a sandbox. It means the game is in my head. I make my own rules. So in single player I like to have all options possible to tune the world my way. And no-weapons is a very important rule. In multiplayer it may stay always off but in single player I don't see why I can't do what I want. And no, creative or admin mode are not a very good option since they ruin a part of fun.

There are many ways to easily disable weapons. Disable bot aiming (being shot when you fly into the aim yourself is nasty but still acceptable). Disabling shooting trigger. Setting all weapons damage to null. Setting all ammo to null per round. Disabling all ammo in the game. Setting permanent alliance status with all factions regardless of rep. These are all efficient ways to fix that. I'm no coder(I only know basics) but I'm sure it's a job for 1 hour max.

So please fix it! I love the game and want to enjoy it same as before the update. Especially now that we got so many new ships to meet or buy. Sometimes I like to grab a few U ingots from a passing ship. Sometimes I grind the whole thing for my needs. Not being aggressive and sometimes being a bit kleptomanic is my way of fun. =)

Thanks in advance.

Still broken as of 1.192.1

It looks like outside of a certain radius the space pirate base can shoot at you with missiles and guns. Once you get inside of that 200m radius they are still firing (as evident from little puffs of smoke coming from the gattling gun, but no bullets fly.) The same thing happened with the Spur drone. It could fire on me during approach but not once I got closer than 200m. For testing I'm just using the moon start scenario and jumping in the fighter to fly to the closest pirate base (and test to make sure my own weapons are disabled, which they are.) i'm kinda moving on to other games now so this will probably be the last time I check on this. It's been ignored for 3 months now. This is why voting systems on bugs is horsecrud. Unless this gets hundreds of votes, they won't ever even read this thread again. To make it worse there's a whole bunch of elitist players that only think the devs should have game settings they agree with. Last time I posted this in reddit to raise awareness it got downvoted to hell by a bunch of people telling me I sucked for not playing the game they felt it should be played so I have no illusions that this will ever be repaired. Good luck guys. The hard drive space is worth more to me empty than waiting a year or three for them to get around to it. /uninstall

Still broken in 1.193. Enemies can still shoot you between their outer weapon range and 200m. seems they can't once you're inside of 200m. This is a basic feature of the world settings and you can't be bothered to even look at it. Thanks alot.

Hello All!

I very much apologise for such a long response. This changed to outdated recently to allow players to retest on the latest version. I see Jamie has been constantly retesting this. I have successfully reproduced and reported the issue internally.

1.197.180 - 3/12/2021 - Re-tested in completely new save game. Moon base custom world, all defaults and mods disabled, only option changed was unchecking the "weapons enabled" option. Space pirate faction is still able to fire at you, but because of world setting you cannot return fire.

Just made a world turned weapons off, i approached a rust freighter thinking that it would be an easy capture because i disabled weapons and it immediantly started shooting at me, almost 2 years without fix.
