Problem with the game

Shlako Block shared this bug 19 months ago
Solved

Hello, I have the following problem. When I try to switch the panel with the choice of items to place, the game freezes. No mods, pure vanilla, vanilla game script. Steam showed no problems with the files.

I reinstalled the game, but it didn't help

How can I provide you with logs for a more detailed study of the situation?

Hello, Shlako Block,

thanks for letting un know.

However, I would need more information on this, if possible.

By the "panel with the choise of items" you mean the toolbar, right? And by "switching" you mean when changing the toolbar by pressing Shift + number, right? Can you confirm (see my image to be absolutely sure)?

If this is what you meant, I have no issue with this. Can you please show it to me on the video? What exactly happens when the game freeze? Does it freeze in a way that it's actually blocked and you can not play anymore? Do you need to force-close the game and run it again from Steam? Or does it unstuck itself after some time and you are able to continue to play the same game?

Please try these workarounds (although you wrote you tried some of these already):

  • Verify your game files in Steam – right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files
  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file (it means your game configuration will be deleted) – you can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.
  • Delete ShaderCache folder – same access as above
  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder (so you won't loose e.g. your saves and such) and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Update graphic drivers
  • Reinstall the game – please make sure it's actually the very clean install. After uninstalling the game, make sure that there are no files left (obsiously, not saves and blueprints and such that you want to keep) in neither of the files connected to the game; in Roaming folder (access written above) and in the Steam folder as well (most likely Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/SpaceEngineers). If some files/folders are still present there, delete these as well, please. Restart your PC and install the game anew.
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

If nothing from above would work for you, can you please share me with the video also the log file?

You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Please send me a log file from some session that you run (after performing all above) and experience the issue in it.

Thank you in advance. Please let me know.

Kind Regards

Yes, it's a toolbar. Yes, shift + number. The game completely freezes, does not respond to attempts to close from Steam, I close it through the task manager.

The bug went away by itself the next morning. Probably, it was necessary to additionally restart the computer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. In the future, if this situation arises again, I will try the solutions you described.

Thanks for the answer!
