1.192.020 Falling through blocks

Danny Biehl shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

Hello,

Starting with the new 1.192.020 bug fix, both my character and vehicles are constantly falling through my station blocks. It starts about 2-3 minutes into loading the save. Anything not locked down through a connector or landing gear will fall through/be able to walk and drive through any blocks. It will randomly work for a second, then I will be able to phase through again. Voxels do not have this problem. My base is an underground based that was drilled into the voxels.

Hello,

Could you please provide the world so we can test there?

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Kind Regards

I couldn't save the edit to my other post, so Ill add another. I am running a lot of scripts in the world. Each vehicle has multiple, and the base is running at least 4 or 5. The Shift-F1 system performance screen complains about it every now and again.

Thanks for the Reply.

I tried to publish the world to Steam, but am getting failures. I am not sure why. I tried to attach it here, but it is exceeding the file size limit of 2MB. So here is the dropbox link for the third option. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nm3cz4k6n1783b0/Phasing%20Through%20Blocks%20test%20world%20for%20KSH.zip?dl=0 . I just zipped up the world save, so please let me know if any other files are needed, or if there is another way to get the file to you.

I also recorded a video and put it on youtube that shows some of the issues that I have been having.

https://youtu.be/tuOuqkfhjrY

As for more detail:

System Specs:

i7-5820k at stock speed

64GB Ram

RTX 2080 founders edition. 2560x1440 @120hz

win10 1903.

Note - This is a VM running on top of esxi 6.5. This VM has access to all of the cores on the proc, and 16gb of ram. During testing, I shut down everything else, leaving this VM the only one running. Processor usage is about 60-70% and uses about 8gb or so of ram while running SE. Increasing the ram allocation to the VM up to the full amount does not help.

World Details:

This world has many, many mods. About 60-70 I would say. I have attached the list. During testing, I have gotten it to behave somewhat, and I will detail what I did below. Also, this only happens my main stationary grid that I have in the mountain side. Any rover that I have is fine, and it seems that the trading stations are fine. This world was first made after the survival update went live, and as far as I know, it has about 100+ hours on the save. The issue of falling through the blocks only started after the 1.192.020 hotfix, but the issues with the "sticky" wheels as seen in the video above has been going on for a bit off and on. I am not sure they are related.

What I have tried so far:

Removed Red grid catwalks mod and replaced with windows and other solid blocks - no change.

Removed Hollow Planet Clean-up mod - I thought this fixed it. The rover with the trailer was stable, and i could walk on the floor without issue for a while. I drove the big rover about 4k away, and when I came back, the rover was half destroyed in the the floor, and I could not walk on the station grid.

Removed a few other "Intense" mods to try to calm down the sever CPU % - no change.

It seemed that I had a bunch of half welded blocks that were in the voxels and connected to the main grid. I had them fully welded up. At this point I still had Hollow Planet cleanup turned off, as well as a few other mods that I do not use anymore. This seemed to help some.

I looked through to the grid to see if everything was owned by me. There were a few blocks that the Build and Repair mod welded up as owned by noboby. I transferred everything to me. This seemed to help. Directly after this, I flew to space for a bit. When I returned, the enemy bases in the above save despawned. Since returning the issue has not came back.

During all of this, all of the mods have been updating. But now that I think of it, the updates would not have done anything. The world I have sent was just run, and the issue is very prevalent.

That is all I can think of. Thank you for your time, and sorry for the long-winded post. I love this game, and am coming up on 1300 hours. Keep up the good work.

Also having this issue on a completely unmodded server. Seems related to overall grid size. Restarting the server solved the first problem, but now there are invisible "barriers" everywhere when the player character moves on the grid.

Unable to attach world save file because of your max upload allowance. Uploaded to Dropbox instead:

Can't edit my post above.

A little investigation seems it may be related to pistons on a big mining rig I built. Separating the mining rig from the main base and restarting the server fixed the problem. Reconnecting the two grids caused the issue to immediately reappear.

I then tested this with "share inertia tensor" turned off. Interestingly, while it causes the pistons to swing around a fair bit more, the original bug doesn't seem to resurface (or at least it hasn't after a few minutes, whereas it was immediate before). So it seems this may have something to do with the "share inertia tensor" feature and/or how the game is calculating the physics. Another thing I did was ensure the top piston is only connected at a single point rather than being recessed with four blocks around it.

Hopefully the above helps someone while the devs work towards fixing this issue.

Hi,

@Danny, is it happening even without mods in your world? It seem to happen mostly with modded blocks.

@Eldaas, can you explain me what should I do to reproduce the issue in your world?

Thank you.

Hi Support. I explained how to reproduce the bug in my post above and I don't think it needs repeating. I can try and rephrase it though if there's a language barrier causing difficulties or if there's a particular point you're not clear on. Thanks for looking into this. :)

Hello, support. It did not happen in a virgin world. I was happening to every block that is in the world in question, both modded and vanilla. I replaced the main floor with all plain steel blocks, and it was still happening on that floor. Anyway, I seem to have fixed it. One thing that helped is that I removed a mod called Hollow Planet Cleanup by Meridius_IX/Lucas. Its purpose is to clean up any blocks that might have fallen past the voxels into the planet. I wasn't sure if it was getting messed up with the base being in the planet. That helped some, but didn't fully fix the issue. The second thing I did was to check the station grid for ownership. There was at least one block (dont ask me which one, I have no idea.) I have about 200 items in the terminal and I highlighted them all, and it showed blank for ownership, which means not everything was owned by me(just putting that out there for people looking at the same problem). Once I switched them to all owned by me, the problem completely went away. I went back to the version of the world that is in the dropbox link and made those changes, and have been playing happily for 10 or so hours in the same world with the same modded blocks without issue. The world is actually running much smoother than it was before I made those two changes, so the game was definitely mad at something those two things were doing. Again, thank you for looking into my issue, which was probably caused partially by a mod. I am leaving this here so you guys can not worry about it, and for possible future reference for others.

Again, great game, can't get enough.

Hello, Engineers!

As this issue is rather old now, as well as the last comments here, let me first of all ask whether any of you is still experiencing it nowadays (v198).

If yes, can you please update the information, if the issue changed anyhow through out the time?

If no... thanks for confirming that you are not experiencing it anymore.

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineers!

Because there is no new comment from you, and we are unable to reproduce the issue on our own, I will close this thread now as outdated.

If you or any other player will experience this issue again, please make a new thread and provide all needed info there.

Thank you for understanding.

Kind Regards
