Add damping toggle to thrusters

As a pilot of a ship in gravity, I want to be able to hover, keeping my current altitude, while being free to coast laterally and without needing a separate toggle every time I need to make a lateral correction.

Right now,

  • "Inertial dampening" always works for all directions, or for none (when it's off).
  • To stop a thruster from acting under ID, it must be turned off.
  • To keep a thruster to manual input only, ID itself must be turned off.
  • To keep a thruster to manual input without ID interfering, it must be set to an override value, which is fixed, and the thruster must be toggled, requiring two taps per correction instead of just one.

The current system makes gameplay unnecessarily clunky, but appears to have all the necessary elements already implemented, just not yet made available in a form that solves this request.

So, I would like a toggle for individual thrusters that stops "Inertial dampening" from using them but keeps them usable for manual inputs.

This would make hovering and coasting much more pleasant to use.

Thanks,

A.

For this it could also be usefull to have a more fine toggleable manual thrust control. Not only 10-100 percent in 10 percent steps but in 1 percent steps perhaps or even finer. So that one can increase and decrease thrust to the point that one gives enough thrust to the ground to hover

On its own, yes, the ability to have fine or even arbitrary increments would be nice, but I'm not sure where this is supposed to fit into this suggestion. Maybe there's a misunderstanding? I don't want to adjust hover thrust manually. I want to keep hover thrust regulation to the dampers. All I want is to _exclude_ other thrusters, like left/right/front/back, from damper input without turning them off entirely so that I can still use them manually.

I liked the damped gyro idea. This one idea doesn't seem as critical. I always group my reverse and lateral thrusters and have them on the hotbar. I just toggle them off when I want to fly as you described. This doesn't seem as big a deal to me as the damped gyros.

Point is that I specifically don't want to toggle for when I need or don't need the thrusters in question because as soon as they are toggled on, ID uses them for damping before and after manual input until toggled off again.

Yes, of course this is not very big a deal, but so are many, many other functions that the game both is capable of and is currently withholding from the player. This isn't a dick-measuring contest for whose deal is the biggest. If you, personally, don't see it as a big deal, fine, good for you. Kindly leave others the freedom to see it as big or small as they want, just as they are leaving you the same freedom about your deals.

So you go immediately to raging ass as soon as someone says anything other than "hur dur teh iz teh bezt idea evar!!!11!111!" in a comment? Nice.

Certainly, although regrettable to see, you may also choose to make use of your freedom to meet a request for basic objectivity with disproportionate and irrational levels of defensiveness, mockery, and hostility; although, do mind what that does for your credibility. Or don't, your choice.

Wouldnt it make more sense then to suggest some kind of aerodynamic drag in the atmosphere of planets and only use thrusters in two directions to accelerate and gain altitude? I mean you request a feature to imitate realistic aerodynamic and refuse every other suggestion to imitate it either. Why even request something to imitate it at all if you request something then why dont you request the real thing to begin with?

No, it would not, because that's not what I want. I don't want to imitate anything. No atmospheric drag, no dynamic lift, no whatever else. I have stated very clearly what I want. Literally anything else is your interpretation.

Alright then, hur dur teh iz teh bezt idea evar!!!11!111!

I did recently post something similar. I liked your post as well.
