Hand-mining / hand-welding bug

Suicide Neil shared this bug 3 years ago
Solved

'Optimisations' aimed at improving the gameplay experience ( on xbox ) have caused hand mining and welding to become effectively broken. Mr W4stedSpace experienced this recently on a livestream and explained the issue in this short 3 minute video clip ( ask for a re-upload if the link expires ): https://www.mediafire.com/file/3qcldvikt7tyep4/OreMiningBug.mp4/file

Please, DO NOT apply optimisations intended to make the console experience better, to the PC branch of the game- enough 'optimisations' have already been made that have watered down and hurt the performance and gameplay experience for PC players.

Hello, Suicide Neil,

thanks for letting us know. However, I was not able to reproduce this behavior when tried myself.

I did see it when testing other issue from this forum, but that was on modded world. From the video, I can see that you/they are using mods as well in the game.

Can you please confirm that this issue is reproducible on vanilla game as well? If not, and it is mod related, then it´s the mod creator responsibility to fix it.

Thanks for either confirming or disclaiming the mod-relation. Hope you understand.

Kind Regards

Question- when you tested it yourself, were you in single player / offline, or in multiplayer?

From both Farrell & W4sted's descriptions, it seems to be the mined ore/rock appears on the wrong side of the rock face / voxels as you are drilling into it, so it falls into the center of the planet rather than in the free space around your feet as such.

This has been tested on a vanilla planet and modded ones, and seems to be worse when there are 2 or more players mining in close proximity.

If you check W4sted's most recent live stream at 3:29:42 to 3:32:45, he explains what is happening ( I believe Farrell was in single-player when this was happening so it isn't just a multiplayer issue it seems ). There is also a fix for the problem that simply increases the drill-radius so that mined ores don't spawn/appear on the wrong side of the voxels- if I recall correctly hand drills have been nerfed slightly a while back, so that may be the issue causing it- just a theory but something else to look at anyway.

Hello, Neil,

I did try it on both - SP and MP as well. Still can not reproduce. Only think, that happens to me is this where the ores are spawned displaced to the character´s location, sometimes, it fell on the other side of the mining area as well leading to the ore being inside the planet/asteroid. Do you think this is the same?

I can not reproduce however even the mining on LMB spamming as it is described and shown on the video - when I spam LMB, the drill is constantly switching between click drill and drill on all the time and I´m not able to drill ore at all. Definitely not working as shown on video.

Moreover... that´s nice that you are writing that is happened on modded and non-modded planet as well. But.. what does that mean exactly? Was the planet without any mods, but the game itself was with mods? I can clearly see that on the first video, they are using mods. On the second, they also mentions using some drill mod to extend it´s area of effect.

Do you have this sort of info just based on the videos here, from other players, or did it happen to you personally as well?

Please keep in mind that we are able to write down only bugs that happens on completely mod-free worlds/games.

Kind Regards

That actually seems to be the exact issue as the guys were discussing it on Sunday's live stream- they mentioned a possible floating-point error relating to the distance from the centre of the world/map causing the ore to spawn off-set from where the characters were mining by a few meters, resulting in it falling down inside the voxels instead of into the area around the player's feet.

I must admit I haven't tested it myself, but it doesn't seem to be a mod issue, more like the issue with having a massive play-area ( large distances between planets, far away from the centre as mentioned ) causing errors- this is only a fairly recent issue that started when they travelled a long distance from where they started, about ~200,000km from the centre point of the world I believe. There were no issues with mining then & they were using most of the same mods.

Hello, Neil,

thanks for confirming. It really seems very similar if not the same.

I would wait till the issue I shared here is fixed and please can you let me know afterwards?

I won´t close this thread as duplicate, yet. Will leave it on NMI and we´ll decide what to do with it after that one if fixed, so we can distinguish whether is it indeed one and the same.

Kind Regards

Hi, Neil!

As you didn´t reply for a longer period of time now and we do not have any more thread regarding this issue, I take it it is actually properly fixed now. Will close this thread.
