safe zones allowing block damage - v1.198.024

DCar shared this bug 2 years ago
Solved

Safe zones are allowing large grid armor blocks to be deformed by turrets and some small grid blocks to be intermittently damaged/destroyed by turrets when "allow shooting" is enabled in the safe zone and "allow damage" is not enabled. Missile damage does not seem to be a problem.

Steps to reproduce

- Create world in v1.198.024, ideally something giving the player free grids. I used the easy earth start.

- add safe zone blocks/items & ensure settings disallow damage while allowing shooting in the safe zone.

- build pylon with gatling turret outside safe zone with turret at good position to shoot both large and small grids inside the safe zone and assign ownership of pylon to space pirate faction.

Hello, DCar!

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. I've just tried to reproduce what is happening for you with your steps however, it did not happen for me. Is it possible you could please supply your save just to check I haven't missed anything?

  • You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. There should be a folder with your SteamID and your saves.
  • Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Maximum attachment size being 2MB, I'm not sure how many save files will be uploadable here. Anyway, here's the world; it was created today with no mods enabled. Two screenshots attached.

Hello, DCar!

Thank you for the save file and images. The file you provided seems mid-way through damage. I went to an earlier backup and repaired things and turned the turrets back on. When I have done this, I can't seem to get them to damage any of the grid which seems strange. I can see with the file you provided there is obviously damage, I am just unable to reproduce seeing it actually damage the grid if this makes sense.

It doesn't actually damage the large grid, it just deforms the blocks. I suspect (without being able to prove) this whole thing may be to do with the changed block deformation system which came with the new Warfare 1 release. I also think the reason small grid blocks are intermittently destroyed inside the safe zone is because they don't always have enough hit points to survive a single turret round and are, therefore, just destroyed because of some out of order step in the damage process.

In short, it seems to me that turret rounds will deform whatever they land on whether they actually damage the blocks or not. It seems possible that small grid blocks may also stop being destroyed if this problem is fixed for large grids ... but I can't really know that.

Hello, DCar!

Thank you for the update. I haven't managed to watch it deform the blocks either sadly. I need to be able to reproduce the issue to report it. The save file you produced was with the blocks already deformed so I went back to an earlier backup and repaired the blocks. Unfortunately, the blocks didn't deform again. Is it possible you have a save prior to it happening where the blocks will deform for me to reproduce?

I'll do you one better. I made another new world a little while ago just to show it wasn't a weird one-time glitch, and I recorded a video for you in case your client still won't produce the results I'm getting. I hope this helps.
