Steam: Error Accessing Service

Solved

Hello I have been having this problem for the past few days. I am unable to post blueprints to the workshop and I keep getting the same ambiguous message. Steam: Error Accessing Service. I hade posted to the Steam discussions hoping someone had a fix but with no luck.

Also I am not opting in for Mod.io ever.

Attempted fixes:

1. Tried restarting game/Steam/computer = No Results.

2. Clear out steam cloud data for SE = No Results.

3. Make a new fresh world and a fresh BP = No Results.

4. Verify SE files through Steam = No Results.

5. Uninstall SE and Reinstall SE = No Results.

6. Uninstall SE and delete all files on my computer associated with SE (except for worlds and BPs). Reinstalled SE = No Results.

I am at my wits end please help. Thank you.

I found a fix.

It is not an acceptable fix but it works. You will have to completely delete Steam from your computer. Here is a guide on how to do so without losing your installed games.

My computer could not find the uninstall files for Steam so I had to manually delete is as shown in this guide.

Good Luck to those who try this. I would still like to see a proper fix for this on the Steam side.

Yep, same thing here. I replied to a similar reddit post.

I've published blueprints in the past and the thumbnail being less then 1mb was the only requirement. Now nothing below works.

- Custom Thumbnail 797KB or even leaving the auto generated doesn't work

- Steam cloud is disabled

- Trying to publish with or without tags, Rover, Ship etc

- Using a different computer.

- Changing regional settings in steam

- No password changes recently

- Also tried to upload a save instead of a blueprint, also doesn't work

- Logged in into steam via the in-game overlay

- Verified Game File integrity.

- Reverted the game version via the Beta Tab to 1.196 (Server Optimisations)

You guessed it, doesn't work.

Absolutely nothing works, I'm so frustrated with all of this.

Only this new mod.Io thing works, which I'm also not interested until I manage to upload what I want in the Steam Workshop first.

Throws the usual error followed by a malformed workshop publication with no data.

Hello, All!

There have been a few threads over the weekend regarding this so I will treat this as the main thread and direct people here.

I'm sorry that you're having issues with this. Could I please suggest the following for anyone who has not tried this first -

  • Verify your game files in Steam

  • Right click on Space Engineers in Steam Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify Integrity of Game Files

/bfSnH0rGoN-NgctSWBJN3LfvWZvgnfye9BrPgucxV0n8TDpNc-7yZYwSifdRXyl1quu20KGUNmHzSf6VGRbhWS4a_EYn2MclxJSOz6eVarmz-fhTWVaofVOAVZN_l_leF9dgQ5GF

  • Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg file

  • It means your game configuration will be deleted
  • You can access your SpaceEngineers.cfg by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

  • Delete ShaderCache folder

  • Back up your whole Space Engineers Roaming folder and delete it
  • Restart Steam
  • Reinstall VC Redist 2017
  • Reinstall the game
  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated

Please make sure that Steam is online.

Could you please also supply copies of the blueprint you are trying to upload as so far, I have been unable to reproduce the issue. Hopefully this way we can identify what isn't uploading and why :)

You can access your save files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Blueprints. Select the correct folder where your blueprint is saved (local or cloud), zip the file and attach it here.

Please zip the file and attach it here. If you are having difficulty attaching files you can optionally use Google Drive. When sharing a google drive link please make sure it is set to be downloadable by anyone with the link.

Kind Regards

Hello Thank you for responding. As a quick note I have also tried all the steps Glaixber has mentioned in the last post.

The thing with the blueprints is that I have attempted to upload several different ones. I first thought it might be a bad blueprint but remaking a new one didn't change anything.

No Mods are on any of my blueprints.

- New BP = No Results

- Old BP = No Results

- Updating an already posted BP = No Results

I will still link a couple files so you can see what is in them.

Exactly, it fails with every blueprint, including blueprints I've previously published successfully months prior.

Hello Stratus!

Thank you for providing the blueprints, these did upload for me without issue. I am glad you have managed to find a fix and appreciate you taking the time to let others know. I will leave this open for the time being to see if this helps Glaixber too.

I'm glad Stratus found a fix. This just feels weird because I've built this PC very recently and everything is as clean as it can be, and for an issue like this to occur that requires such measure so early on seems quite off. But since It's the only way, I'll give it a go eventually.

Thanks

Hello Glaixber!

I will close this now and mark it as solved. If you do have an issue when you reinstall Steam, please let us know and we will look into it again for you :)

I have indeed reinstalled steam but didn't work right away,

Also another thing which I'm not sure if it's related or not

My time in windows was set to auto, however the timezone was not. So I set that to Auto as well, since in theory, could be causing a server communication de-sync between the PC and Steam Servers... Which also didn't work... I think...

But a few hours later i did try to publish again and it suddenly I managed to upload the blueprint, But never actually figured out what did the trick. Also before this nonsense I tried to upload something to the cities skylines workshop and it was working just fine, so this issue with the workshop only seems to happen with SE. Oh well, hopefully it doesn't happen again.

Hello, Glaixber!

I'm glad the issue resolved itself in the end. There was another thread where the user also had the issue resolve out of nowhere but believes they didn't change anything. Thank you for mentioning the timezone, it may be useful for other users if they run into this again :)

I have reinstalled Steam and checked my time setting. Time zone wasn't on auto so just changed that to but still no fix for me. you did say that it wasn't immediate so I will keep trying. I still think its a steam issue though.

Yeah, it's really hard to pinpoint, also I did load an ancient save file, when I did upload the blueprint, don't know if it makes any difference honestly, reason why I didn't even mentioned cause sounds too weird.

I WAS having this problem until just now.

this is what I did in order:

  1. (Close out the game) Disable Steam Cloud Synchronisation (though it seems to do nothing for me). this might does nothing to fix my issue, but worth pointing out since disabling the cloud is mentioned in other threads with similar problem. and was one of the first thing I did.
  2. (re)Create a local save (I changed to Offline in settings from other option for my case).
  3. RECREATE the problematic blueprint in the local server.
  4. Upload the recreated bp without issues.

Additional infos:

  • I have uploaded bps before in that same save before setting the Online Mode to non-Offline (Friends in my case)
  • Major difference between the previous bps and the problematic bp - File size: Successful upload size ~1MB. Failed upload size: ~5.5MB
