[ 1.190] All physics break down, reproducible

Devon_v shared this bug 4 years ago
Won't Fix

Load the world, note that everything seems stable. Nothing will happen unless you do the following:

Get in the ship on the left with all the spotlights and cargo containers. Move it underneath the free connector (but do not make a connection nor get close enough for a magnetic attraction), lower it to the ground, and turn off its dampners. Get out and walk over to the button panel, then turn and face the ship. In a moment you should lose control of the player, and every piston, rotor, and wheel in the base, possibly the world, will detach and every object will float away as if under water.

Only this specific set of steps will reproduce the issue, but it is 100% when the steps are followed. Very strange.

This save was also experiencing strange phantom forces on dampners which were resolved by exiting and reentering the cockpit after pressing Z. Both of these issues started with 1.190, the world ran perfectly with exactly this set of mods and setting previously.

Moving pics, 'cause it happened.

For some reason the issue is significantly harder to trigger while recording. Something frame rate dependent?

is it reproducible without mods?

Not sure, I got really bummed out and haven't played SE since. Maybe when I get a day off I'll dig into it and see if it still triggers if I strip all the mods out.

I have the same issue Deceti reports about the loss of movement unless you cycle the jetpack. It's kinda hard to see in the video, but my astronaut is also constantly rotating slightly for no reason.

I am seeing something very similar. We have noticed for almost a week now on our Dedicated Server that randomly we get a 'physics failure' whereby any/all the vehicles will start rotating in place. Wheels disconnect from suspensions and all control of the vehicles is lost. Most of the time restarting the server fixes it but occasionally we have had to rollback a little to clear it.

We do have mods installed but as of tonight I have started seeing the same behaviour in a single play vanilla creative session. I have been unable as yet to pin down any specific cause for the event, it has happened on unlocking landing gear, on players joining the server, on welding/grinding blocks & sometimes just seemingly no reason.

I also notice when this occurs the player character has great trouble moving on the ground. If jetpacking, usually moves ok.

In the server instance we have players on planet surfaces, on asteroids & lunar based. They generally all start feeling the effect once it starts (much stuttering/laggy movement etc) so its not a localised problem. Sim speed has been observed to drop from 1.0 to as low as 0.4 during the failures.

*edit* Just now on the 'infected' creative session, just moving the player character close to a thus far unaffected vehicle caused it to start rotating. Did not touch or interact with the vehicle at all, just close proximity.

I also very occasionally when this happens lose all sound from the game until I exit the session, at which point I get a slight 'click'noise and sound is back.

I have this weird bug, it corrupt my world save and destroy anything I built with subgrid. But I don't do that actions to reproduce, it might be what I just build something new and then it happen.

I uploaded my corrupted world. If you will play latest save you will see this issue, but if you load previous backup then all will work as normal. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cmZ1Xw6L7qlmww8z3p87qVNYb36ebt4t/view?usp=sharing

This looks A LOT like what we've been experiencing on our DS. Where one or two things start to seem strange and then full out Poltergeist mode gets enabled. Objects floating away off of connectors/rotors/pistons.

After reading your post. I wonder if it's related to wheels touching the same grid or maybe the same planet. We often seem to have wheels acting strange before or around the times that it has happened. Thinking back it might have always been when my rover was parked on the grid that this problem eventually occured.

At this point it looks like Space Engineers is completely unplayable until this is fixed. Our server runs into this bug every 5-10 minutes, requiring a load from one of the backups. This should be a 'high' to 'emergency' priority bug.

Hello!

I appreciate this post is quite old. I wondered if this issue is still persisting for you? I hope it has been cleared up as we have had a number of updates since this was posted and are now on version 197.075. I will mark this as solved if it ok now. If it is not fixed, please also let me know :)

Kind Regards
