Gatling turrets hit armor blocks

Hi people.

just want to leave this here.

gatling guns try to skim too close past armor blocks. this causes them to occasionally hit, and damage blocks on the same grid as them. right now as i'm typing, my ship is literally shooting through itself trying to shoot so close past the armor blocks that it keeps on hitting them.

a simple fix could be to make turrets require a little clearer vision of the target before shooting, or add an option to make turrets unable to damage the same grid they are on.

Hello, Engineer!

Unfortunately we can't reproduce the issue. Could you please update your ship/station or world to workshop and post it here?

Kind Regards

I have recorded a video and posted it on youtube showing the issue. 23 seconds into the video, my problem is shown. here is the link:

here is the workshop link to my world too:

How can this not be reproduced by the devs ? This has been an issue for YEARS. Only the missile towers have "friendly fire protection" if they hit accidently, the gatling have ever been excepted from that (although i don´t know why).

Gatlings on my ships always shoot their own grid when targetting enemies. This may want to be looked upon very closely in the future.

I am adding my +1 to this issue. In the last few patches my turrets have been causing a lot of collateral damage and friendly fire to the grids they are attached to by attempting to shoot through it. Even when mounted on a raised platform with clear fire arcs, the turrets will still cause damage when firing. I believe that this might have been made worse by the altering of collisions in recent patches.

I just don´t understand why keen didn´t just implement the "friendly fire" option for gatling turrets also - as they did with missile turrets. This option is so perfect, i wouldn´t even mind the aiming issues :)

They have a setting that blocks missile turrets from damaging own grids and it once was named in the settings "Gatling turret damages own grids" or something very similar to that.. I posted a bug report on the forums. The devs called the issue of them still damaging own grids a separate issue and the setting that said by the name of it that it would disable turrets damaging own grids was named wrong and was a bug too.

They haven't responded yet, despite me giving both the map I use for testing designs AND video proof. perhaps they have other things on their plates, but bugs should, frankly, be top priority.

no offense... but it seems there's an air of "it doesn't happen to me, so it CANNOT happen to anyone else." here from the devs.

perhaps i'm a bit impatient though, it might be best to give the devs a little more time to address the issue... but at the point of 2-3 weeks of nothing done (except saying that somehow they cant reproduce the bug) I think we can safely assume that the devs don't care/are emulating politicians :)

that is, once the 2-3 weeks mark has passed atleast... which is not far off at all. that's being generous, considering the issue has been in the game for years.

don't worry, the pressurization bug hasn't had answers from the devs for over 1 year. I hope this issue here you have doesn't take that long to get a fix ;)

To be honest... I have my doubts... and that's not just because I'm a cynic either. Still, might as well list the bug here, even if there's a big chance it wont get fixed. I mean, hell, I could be pleasantly surprised and proven wrong... I hope that's the case. it sure would be nice... but with over 1500 hours (i think) in se and seeing trends over the years, i wont let whatever happens get to me.

I wish you luck, wish this issue would be resolved correctly finally, and wish that keen would actually take all these reports seriously and get to work on fixing them.

I have been waiting for over 5 years for this issue "Gatling turrets damaging own grids issue" to be fixed.

I would set up all these elaborate battles and bases for my exploration save, when the first enemies show up all my guns on any ship not designed specifically to prevent this issue from happening fires and destroys itself and everything in-between the enemy ship and mine. So I uninstalled but kept my mods and saves backed up Incase the day comes they finally fix this one bug, I moved on as I can't stand this bug it ruined all the fun when you need to rebuild your ship each time your attacked because not only is the enemy shooting at you but your own automatic defense system is hitting your ship too.

This comment aged like fine wine it's been around 19 months since your comment and we can see the developers are solely only focused on making money from those absurd and trash skin packs/useless content

Hello!

I've just retested this and the turret appears to be missing the armor blocks now and not causing any damage. Could you please confirm that this is no longer an issue for you too?

Kind Regards,

I can confirm that there is no change. the problem is still there and turrets still hit armor blocks and eventually destroy them, just as shown in the video I have posted above.

Hello!

Thank you very much for the video and world link. I have successfully reproduced and reported the issue for you.

They are never going to fix this, there are so many people who quit playing specifically because of this one one issue, yes it is that bad. Can you put a boot in their butt so to speak to and get them moving on this issue?

What I don't understand is why they can't figure out a simple solution- everything has a hit box/collision box, turrets have a firing cone ( due to bullet spread ); if a turret is trying to shoot something and its firing cone will intersect with it's own grid then it should simply not fire until it has clear line of sight ( bullets not clipping into it's own grid's hit boxes ).

It already does this but the tolerances are too loose, resulting in turrets trying to shoot through the edges of walls and other blocks. I refuse to believe it's that hard of an issue to solve that it's still present after 7+ years...

I think also the ray casting is slightly higher than the the bullet exit point from the turret. So the line of sight says it is clear but the bullets come out slightly lower than the line of sight and clip the edge of blocks. It only happens to blocks that are below the turrets, not to the sides or above the turret. This reliably happens on the following blueprint of mine. The rear Gatling turrets shoot forward and when the target is slightly above or below the center line of the ship in front of it, the rear Gatling turrets shoot the armor panels lying flat on the hull in front of the connector directly in front of the turret.

As of Warfare 2, the Assault Turrets at the back of the ship try to shoot straight through the turret pods the Artillery turrets are mounted to which are directly in front of the Assault Turrets when they try to fire at something in front of the ship. They don't even attempt to not shoot through the ship at all. They just blast away at the ship trying to shoot the target. Totally different problem from the Gatling turrets. However, the Assault Cannon Turrets do not damage their own grid like the Gatling turrets do. Why do all turrets but the Gatling turret not damage their own grid? Why not have the Gatlings also not damage their own grid? But please deal with the Assault Cannon Turrets and likely the Artillery Turrets shooting through their own grid, this is a very different problem than the Gatling Turrets as they do not attempt to shoot through the ship, they just clip the edges of blocks.

Also, are you testing these on dedicated servers or Keen servers or just in creative in SP? Single Player is NOT the same as Multiplayer. If you test things under different circumstances, you will get different results.

I agree with all said except about those other two weapon types I know nothing of as I haven't played this game since 2019 due to this exact bug. I was tired of building/rebuilding my bases and ships because the devs are incompetent and refuse to acknowledge the issue and fix it finally. This game has been out and in development for over 10 years and they still have bugs like this in it that with any competent development team would have been ironed out in the Alpha phase or earlier. This game is based around weapons, building, exploration, and geography forming (terraforming) yet the basic fundamental aspect this game is based on and revolves around us so bugged that it is still causing long time followers and players of the game and team to leave for good unless the issue(s) get resolved.
