Eye Adaptation is inverted.

Tau᠎ shared this bug 5 years ago
Won't Fix

I don't know the actual name for this feature, However the bug is as follows:

When entering a dark room from a light area, The dark room gets "darker" When you enter it, And vice versa for outdoors, This makes no sense of cause.

In real life, If you were to enter a dark room from a light area, you would have trouble seeing anything for a few moments, 10-20 seconds, Then You would start to see slightly better as your eyes adapt, When entering a lightened area, Your eyes would do the inverse, However that would do this step faster.

This is a bug that makes it impossible to play space engineers. When you start the game and enter an asteroid to mine for recources it is impossible to make out what is ahead of you because it is too dark. Enabling the flashlight doesn't help with how much you can see.

I don't mean to sound hostile... but this issue was reported two years ago and has since been the cause of a lot of ignored anger from users (myself included).

This makes the game borderline unplayable! How soon can we expect the option to just be able to SEE in the game?

Or are we just being placated while it gets ignored for another two years?

I rarely play this game partly because of this.

Please make sure to work through your bug reports, or the very least give an answer as to why it's taking so long/not being taken seriously.

Alternatively: If you're not going to fix this how about give us a simple option to disable "Eye Adaptation" all together?

Effectively reverting the change implemented 2 years ago.

With all due respect I hope you will re-evaluate what can be done with this. It's really silly.. for example..

1. Standing in a 10 meter hole in full sun on earth planet turns your whole fps camera pitch black. It's nonsense and you're forced to use third person mode and wiggle the camera around to make the game brighten the screen again..

2. Putting a single block over the top of your cockpit, bright day on earth planet, in first person in the cockpit your screen significantly darkens to the point where you're yet again forced to use third person mode..

Hello, everyone!

Thank you for your patience so far however I have to let you know that this issue won't be fix. According to our programmers, this is simply limitation of our render and how it works.

If there is a problem with the "in-house game engine developed by Keen Software House" then this answer is simply insufficient.

This lighting is horrible and is often making the game unplayable.

When a bug, or unwanted behaviour is found in something that is being made, it is customary to fix that behaviour... not simply say "that's how it is".

3. A small interior building with lots of windows on the sides will still be incredibly dark inside for no reason.
