Set default ore sensor range to 100%

Default ore sensor range is set to 50%. Not sure why you would ever want to have less than 100% and it's easy to forget to adjust it.

Agreed. I always assumed this was done because of performance concerns, which have been reportedly fixed now. So yes, it's time to have ore detectors start at full range, just as it's time for turrets to be "Target Neutrals" off by default....

Agreed. Everyone that knows how to play uses ore detectors at max distance anyways. Given that the benefits to having it 50% and not the full 100 are very situational I think the default should be full strength.

It was a poor idea to halve the default setting. Those that know are annoyed at having to turn it up, and those that don't are infuriated when they realize the unnecessary suffering they went through. IF improving performance was the reason, lowering the max possible range would have been the better (although rage inducing) decision.

Even if power was a concern for the player, it would be smarter to max the range and put a timerblock that toggles on/off every second than halving the slider.

tl;dr This half slider is nothing but annoying and is likely a symptom of not listening to your CTG.

yes honestly i dont know why the ore detectors were even given a valuable slider and set to half on building it, there are far more important aspects of the game and client that so desperately need a slider :D

Unnecessary setting and very easy to become a problem for new players.

Yeah, and the Ore Detector uses 2kW whether it's at minimum range or maximum range, so it makes no sense from a power usage standpoint to have the slider.

Actually larger range causes more CPU usage. But since a few ore detectors with full range won't be a problem and players always set them to full, there's no reason for Keen to insist on a low default range.

其实范围越大越吃CPU。不过几个满范围的矿物探测器又造不成多少卡顿,而且玩家一般都是拉到最大范围的,K社还坚持不给默认最大范围的话就很尬了(笑)。

And doudle all ranges also....

No one ever runs ore detector at less than max range unless they forget to increase it .. having a range selector at all is stupid on this block.. just set to max and leave it there.

Having the slider helps with ore detector range mods and lower end PCs. Like, if you cannot use with 2km range but your mod make max range that much, it may prevent performance problems.

At least it will be the case after a bug that's causing low performance/freezing from ore detectors. I have that and it's almost game breaking for me.

If this is for performance reasons the setting should be in the game settings, not on the detector.

Make the center of the detection sphere move forwards based on the slider. This creates directionality and adds a gameplay twist to searching ore. 100% forward doubles the range but will ignore ore behind the detector. Needing to point it at certain directions.

Alternatively, the slider could be used to transform the spherical detection volume to a slender long (elongated) ellipsoid. Similar to highly eccentric orbits around a planet. Eccentricity of 1, or 100%, would approach a parabolic shaped volume, clipped at some ultimate distance. Object/ore detection performance should not differ too much as the formulas for spheres and ellipsoids are similar in nature. Longer range, but less wide search area. High directionality should require extreme power use (processing the signal). So promoting the temporary or intermittent use. Once the player has moved the sensor closer in that direction then he can use it again to refine the position of the ore. As the new detector position and orientation may put it outside of the detection volume.
