Lighting darkens with new update

Niko Triantafillou shared this bug 3 years ago
Outdated

I recently received the patch for the new update (1.195.019), and all of a sudden, the light of the star is dimmed to shadow levels. Objects still produce shadows when sun-side, but there is no lighting difference between the sun and shadow sides of an asteroid (or anything else for that matter). Solar panels still show full generative capability.

Image: Shadows of objects (tether), but ground side lights appear in contrast where they normally should be washed out by sunlight.

I fear dark times are ahead of us. Help us, General Keen-obi, you're our only hope.

People have discovered that turning on sun rotation will fix the issue. It can be turned back off with no immediate repeat of the bug. The bug only occurs when people have sun rotation off. To be clear, I played the same file for weeks before this bug appeared, with sun rotation off the whole time.

I have been playing the same file for weeks as well, rotation off. The fix you described worked, but when I turned rotation off again, the error reappeared.

Regardless, thanks for your input and effort.

In this situation, /weather command always seems to return "No nearby planets found".

Interesting. Sounds like weather is not playing nice with voxels or grids. Thanks.

I am having the same issue. Sunlight has actually seemingly been removed, along with the shadows it casts, and has left only a background ambient lighting. Making a new world with no mods, restarting the game, verifying the files, deleting the config file, deleting the shader cache, deleting the shaders, lighting, and shadows files, nothing has fixed it. I'm about to do a full reinstall.

Edit: Looking at the sun, it's just an orange disk, it's not blindingly white like it used to be.

That sounds about right. Ambient was the word I was looking for. Regarding the local star (sun), mine is an orange disk as well, but it still has some lense flares attached to it. It reminds me of the Halloween easter egg.
