Areas of space become quicksand - VERY SERIOUS BUG!

Calling all dev/admin: Ships keep getting stuck in jello on server/grid like movement. Not every ship, but happens sometimes. Will act like they are stuck in quicksand and cant move. Players sometimes get the same effect in stairwells. Very serious issue. I had this once before two years ago and ultimately had to wipe the server. Very very concerned now. I just took a local worldsave for you at the location of a grid with quicksand around it. Cut and paste did not fix the issue. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1509095935

Have seen other admin report this as well

@DarkStar I think it was. I am very alarmed, as last time I had this many moons ago, only a wipe could fix it.

The grid "rockbiter" is currently in the area of space affected. In MP DS, cut and paste of the grid and grids nearby did not fix the issue. This has happened many times and each time required me to move the grid far away to fix it, or server restart sometimes would fix it temporarily. It seems to be based on an area of space rather than on a grid. Any grid that enters is doomed.

ALSO: Players flying through quicksand parts of space sometimes get VERY bugged and control inputs become impossible to predict; up may be down, or left; etc. Random movement.

If you use gyro, + thruster, can escape the quicksand...but if you try it without gyro (just thrusting any direction) grid is stuck. Happens to other grids here too, as well as infecting players. It happened in other places on server and to other grids as well but this is first time I got a save.

Further experiments...grids are perhaps sometimes miscalculating mass in some areas of space?? But not sure why extreme gyro torque or server restart fixes the issue then. I think maybe server thinks the grid is incalculably heavy. I do know that even in a fresh world, you can fill a ship cargo with insane weight and get it moving with one thruster, if you gyro hard enough. This can perhaps explain why gyro lets one get free of the "quicksand" area of effect. It does not explain the insane jetpack movement in the bugged areas...but perhaps it effects both mass and center of mass? maybe that could do it. Spitballing here.

Hello,

can you provide a video with the issue? I am not really sure what am I looking for in provided world.

Does it happen without mods and Torch?

Thank you.

Kind Regards

I will try. Never done video.

Bug happens in same parts of space even if every grid, asteroid and mod is deleted.

When it happens to another grid I will grab another save.

With this save, get in the red drillship rockbiter and try to move linearly without using the gyro’s. It wont move without tons of gyro torque to break it free. Server restart, emptying the cargo, or pasting it into a diff world also free it.

Some folks have reported stuff like being unable to walk on stairs, other places, as if invisible things in the way. Pressing harder w/ walk gets you tossed backwards. Any grid entering these areas affected. As more people report, I will take more saves

Indeed, another thread has the same bug and they also suspect game is calculating weight and center of mass wrong; https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/471822823841595392/489057000358150154/image0.png

Looks to me like it's the issue #1 I listed in

Removing the connector releases the rockbiter.
