Symmetry plane cannot be set in Survival mode.

I have a very similar issue using Symmetry mode in survival. When I press the key to go into Symmetry mode, and I see the red-colored plane and I press Left Mouse Button, it places the block in my hand instead of setting the symmetry mode. I can keep pressing the key to change between the planes but I cannot set a plane of symmetry at all in survival.

Thank you for contacting us but this feature currently works as intended. Symmetry mode works only in a creative mode.

Ah, that's a shame. Please consider this a feature request, then. Allow the blocks to be placed in symmetry mode in survival, even if it is limited to only placing and not welding (so I still have to go around to the other side to weld manually). That is acceptable. Please consider.
