Make reactors consume uranium at a constant rate.

A nuclear reaction is hard to start and stop or scale at a whim.

Nuclear reactors should consume a constant rate of uranium and generate a constant rate of power thus balancing electricity and incentivizing the use of batteries that can charge when systems are idle, solar panels for supplementation, and turning reactors/systems on/off for conservation of energy.

A further, realistic idea is to make the generators use a fuel cell produced from uranium and some other elements which, when inserted into a reactor and turned on, will keep reacting indefinitely until consumed fully or extracted. The spent cells could pose a hazard and be required to be ejected into space with appropriate systems for safety.

It's a totally great idea, who make even more sense now there is plenty of source of energy. I hope you can get more likes.

Agreed!

This would be a great way to help balance the use of the new Hydrogen Engines & give us more reason to find uses for them where we might otherwise not bother.

Agree the neutrons can't be stopped like a click

I like this Idea. I never understood why the power output and the uranium consumption change when you have more or less devices connected.

this is a great idea. even if they had a ramp-up / ramp down time that would be much better than the "reactor is just best" situation we have now.

The reactor power is controlled by the introduction of graphite rods into the reaction zone. It on real reactor.

I like the "discard used fuel" idea, since it gives a way for the players to get sick and need medical attention outside of getting shot (which is currently the only way to need a medical room to heal other than dying by asphyxiation).

or being injured in a fall, or wolves, wait this seems like a reasonable amount of ways to get hurt.

Lol I'm dumb. I clearly haven't fallen or been killed by wolves (although I always turn them off) in a long time.

Real nuclear reactors are controlled via the use of control rods. Having a variable reaction rate based on power consumption makes more sense than this suggestion.

Yes, which would force people to switch them off to conserve uranium and You could Implement that the reactors need a few moments to start/ or climb to maximum power output. This would force us to be more reliant on other power sources but also add the sweet realism of starting up ships. Its far too easy to just flip a switch and get a massive ship off the ground in a sec, massive ships need this so you are less reliant on them, only sending them out for large combats etc

Hello.

I know better nuclear reactor and the thing is : we can adjust the power of a nuclear reactor. This is one of the things which make them so useful and performant...But yes, a little delay could be cool.
