[1.191.105] Multiplayer Memory Leak.

Shaun Luttrell shared this bug 4 years ago

Since the beginning of this week, SE has had a huge memory leak, especially in Multiplayer.

I can't even load a Keen official server without page filing before the sever can fully load in. My system has 32gb of DDR4 Memory.

Above is a video detailing the problem.

I also attached the game log for the same game session that was recorded in the video.

Log looks like you are running on Extreme Voxel settings. Don't get me wrong, I agree that voxel memory leaks are an issue, but it is debatable whether you can expect an interactive experience from the "screenshot" setting. A repro case based on High might have more weight.

Ok, ok, Thats what has changed. Geforce Experience just updated this week. They added SE to the opimazation list. So I didn't even realize I had Voxels on extreme. I will retest at the High setting.

I will also leave feedback with Nvidia, no one, even with a $10,000 monster rig (which I don't have) should be playing with Voxels at Extreme.

Retested with Voxels on high. Completely fixed my problem. But as I said in the video, Nvidia needs to be notified of this, and Keen carries more weight with them than I do. I did submit feedback to Nvidia with my finding, but if a Keen rep would contact them also, it would go allot further.

Also, what little bit I could play with Voxels at Extreme was AMAZING!!!! This memory leak still needs to be adressed, as that setting adds SO MUCH to the quality of the game.

GeForce experience knows best, ha! (Never used it; asked me to create an account for no good reason). There is memory leaks and there is voxels being memory hungry. In the latter case you'd just need 64 GB of RAM and it would run fine. In the former case, no matter the voxel detail setting, over a long enough period of time any amount of RAM would run full and the system start to swap until inevitably the game has to be restarted.
