1.190.1 - Keep Projection on projectors no longer working - This breaks MANY things!

NovaEngie shared this bug 4 years ago
Solved

After today's update Keep Projection in projectors no longer works. They always discard the blueprint after welding, even though Keep Projection remains checked. Note that if a blueprint is not loaded in a projector and you save and exit the world, the projector's settings are lost and you must painstakingly realign.

This has totally disrupted the current project I'm working on, and am unable to continue until you fix this. This also breaks all reloadable player-made weapons and all other "assembly line" setups. PLEASE FIX THIS!

To Reproduce in one way,

Maybe there are other ways to reproduce but this works in single player and on dedicated server.

To reproduce in another way, weld this blueprint, disconnect it from the projector that has "Keep Projection" checked, and then check the projector. You'll find it no longer has the blueprint.

Thought I had additional details. I was mistaken.

Do the developers all go get drunk or something to celebrate when they release another update? I've don't think I've ever seen a response from Keen on the same day an update drops, even when it's something that demands an immediate fix.

I have the same bug. Used a blueprint that has 2 projectors. They keep losing their blueprint even if "keep projection" is off. I should have looked in the bugs faster. I spend 2 hours to find what I was doing wrong.

The same thing i have today when trying finish my auto miner. When merge turns off projection dissapears.

While you're working on this, maybe make this setting default to ON when the projector is place?

Same Problem here. Took me a lot of time to notice, that this is an actual Bug -.-

Yep I'm having this issue as well. Voted.

This is actually even worse than the initial bug report indicates. I have projectors "resetting" (losing their blueprint) even when the BP isn't done welding. There are dozens of blocks that don't even have their skeleton placed yet, but somehow the projector resets.

I was very confused when I first experienced this glitch. I spend most of my time designing and using guided missiles and reloading is done by a welder and projector. For me, I was able to get a subgrid missile system to work by adding lots of small batteries to the merge block/projector grid that was attached to my main ship with a rotor. I think that if the amount of terminal blocks on the grid with the projector is greater than the amount of terminal blocks from the detaching grid, the projector will keep its projection. This is only a temporary fix though because it is annoying when you have a large small grid missile and need to find a space for the extra terminal blocks. I also recommend attaching the subgrid by a second rotor if the subgrid extends through your main ship (like mine does) because if the one rotor breaks or the subgrid is somehow detached, it can summon clang to destroy your ship from the inside out. I hope this helps. EDIT: In "TheBaneOfVRage 3000 XT mk.III" the projector is detached from a grid that has more terminal blocks than the grid the projector is on. After adding around 1k reactors to the grid with the projector (overkill), the projection remained in the projector after toggling the merge block multiple times. In conclusion, it seems that this bug can be bypassed if the grid with the projector has more terminal blocks than the grid that detaches. Hopefully this bug will be fixed, but in the meantime you can still build some reloadable PMWs using this trick.

It seems to not work if the projector is turned on when a grid unmerges. Turning the projector off, unmerging, then turning it back on does work though for some reason

Thanks for the tip, but it does not work for my routine.  Put them off and on before and after the merge but still they lose the projection.  Anyone else tried this work arround ?   I hope they fix this soon.  Worked days on a infinite drill routine.

This bug is also linked to merge blocks, not just the keep projection setting. I had an auto miner that worked great, right up untill the projector lost the blueprint. then it came crashing down the support cable, making for quite a hard repair job. the trick of turning off the projector while merging/moving pistons only worked for 20 min, then it broke again.

It's been 2 weeks, for crying out loud.

The tip to put the projector off before changing merge blocks worked. Thanks again for that. Last time it did not because I forgot another merge block. I had 2 projectors. Hope they still fix this soon.

Finally a fix, 5 weeks later, rolled in with another patch. You'd think a hotfix would have been called for. . .
