Weapon firing sound effect does not stop playing

TheRebornAce shared this bug 7 months ago
Investigating

It was brought to my attention for one of my mods, when certain weapons are fired, the audio for that weapon will continuously play regardless if it has finished firing or not. The block must be turned off manually to stop the looping sound.

It seems to be stemming from weapons that uses looped audio in the audio.sbc file and is most prevalent during multiplayer (both locally hosted or on a dedicated server). Single player doesn't seem to have this issue.

Reproduction steps:

- Download this mod and install onto a new world.

https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3516674509

- Load into the world with at least two players present

- Spawn in the block known as the "CIWS Turret" and have one player control it with the other player standing next to it.

- The player in control fires a small burst

- The other player standing next to the weapon should then hear the sound playing continuously until the block is manually turned off

This bug seems to occur for many other weapon mods that uses looped audio and uses the vanilla combat system (eg. not WeaponCore)

Is there a fix for this that I might not be aware of?

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching our forum with this. We're sorry to hear you're experiencing issues.

Unfortunately we've had no luck reproducing this issue based on the steps you've described. Are there possibly any other conditions or steps that are involved, for example game mode or players being neutral or friendly to each other?

Would you know if the block's audio definition uses DistantSounds and a defined MaxDistance?

Thank you in advance.

Kind Regards

Not sure of other required steps as this is based on what other players have described to me for reproduction and only occurs in multiplayer.

As for the audio definition, yes, the audio is setup to use DistantSounds and MaxDistance.

I play with Armageddon meteors and occasionally this happens to me with the CIWS turrets.

I'm In space and have tried both realistic and arcade sound arcade Is more obvious because I don't have to stand on the grid or be In a pressurised environment.

I do play on a server.

EDIT: I think It happens more on realistic sound or I'm going crazy

After further investigation and now have personally experienced this issue myself, it seems to stem most frequently in a high latency world, where being connected with very high ping (150+ ms). The higher the ping is for the player, the more frequent this audio bug occurs.

I have also noticed on my end at least It happens to the same few turrets every time so one or two of multiple placed turrets do It but the others dont.
