Unable to play

Won't Fix

Hello, I have a problem. When I launch the game on Steam, it keeps running in the background indefinitely after I exit. I've restarted my computer, but the "running" message still appears, so I can't play, and I can't uninstall it either, since Steam says the program is still running.

Thanks

Hello Luis,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

Please try fully closing the game and any Space Engineers related processes using Task Manager. To do this, open Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, find Space Engineers (and any other Space Engineers–related entries), right-click them, and select End task. Once everything is closed, restart Steam and launch the game again. If the issue still occurs, close the game once more using Task Manager and proceed with a clean installation.

After ensuring the game is fully closed, navigate to \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers and,

  • Copy the Saves and Blueprints folders to a safe location on another drive or folder.
  • Then uninstall Space Engineers through Steam.
  • Once uninstalled, manually remove any remaining files from
    \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
    and, \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SpaceEngineers folder
  • After that, reinstall the game via Steam and check whether it launches correctly.

If the issue is resolved, you can move your Saves and Blueprints folders back into \AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

If the game still fails to launch properly after this, please send us your latest log file from the time this issue occurred.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind regards,
