The Bridge Helm block does not protect from solar radiation when the room it has been included in as a part of its wall has an open door to it, which means no air pressurization. The block does protect from solar radiation when the door is closed and the room becomes airtight. The room itself protects from radiation even when the door is open, as it is sealed, yet entering the seat of the Bridge Helm will result in increasing exposure level as long as the door is open.

Sitting in my main ships Bridge Helm control block, I gain solar radiation exposure while oriented in the sun.
Does not seem to do this in any other control block/cockpit, which shields normally.
Bridge Helm seems to have a bug
Update: Game Air pressurization was bugged on ship grid- upon F5 reload to fix it, Helm Bridge worked again for solar radiation- so the above bug and pressurization 'desync' seems to be related.

I'm experiencing the same bug. Specifically on the Field work cargo ship "Mobile shipyard". i have claimed this grid twice in two different servers: US #1 and NA #1. on both servers the helm block acts as if it is in open space even though the block is surrounded by bay windows. i frequently use the helm block on the large grid space pawn pod in early game to down grade the control seat and milk the spawn pod for resources before I start mining. I have not experienced this issue before with the helm block. in fact i have a version of it where it is literally a helm block surrounded on 3 sides by flat flass windows, 1 side with a inverted window corner (poor man's airlock) and an air vent at the back of the helm block. that still works fine. but for some reason it is not working on the mobile shipyard build.
