Simulation Speed issue

Need More Information

Hello Keen Support,

Ever since the Apex update, I've been experiencing Simulation Speed issues. I primarily play single-player, but I also frequent an Official Keen Server, and the problem persists in both modes.

Whether in multiplayer or single-player, the same scenario occurs, and I'm struggling to find a fix.

System Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X 6-Core @ 3.59 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB (15.9 GB usable)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5600XT

Symptoms:

  • I was advised to use Shift+F11 to check performance stats. However, when a freeze occurs, the performance window disappears and only reappears after the freeze ends.
  • Simulation speed drops and short freezes occur during gameplay.

Steps I've done:

  • Deleted shader cache and config files
  • Verified Steam game files
  • Updated GPU drivers
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled the game
  • Lowered graphics and simulation settings

Scenarios Where the Issue Occurs:

  • On Keen’s Official Servers
  • Alone on an asteroid in Offline mode
  • With no grids nearby (both online and offline)
  • During combat scenarios (online and offline)

I’ve also collected logs, which I can attach if they will help identify the problem.

Thank you very much for your time and support!

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for the detailed report and the steps you’ve already tried. To help us investigate further, could you please provide a bit more information:

  1. Is the game installed on an internal drive (SSD/HDD) or an external drive?
  2. Are there any pending Windows updates waiting to be installed? If so, please complete the pending Windows updates.
  3. After reinstalling the game, when the simulation speed drops, can you now see the Shift + F11 performance stats, or does it still disappear during freezes?
  4. You mentioned lowering graphics didn’t help, can you confirm if this was tested in single-player, and also share what your ping was on the Official Keen server?
  5. Please disable any overlays or background software (Discord overlay, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, etc.) that might affect performance and test again.
  6. In Options > Display > Video Adapter, which graphics adapter is selected? Make sure your dedicated GPU (AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT) is selected.
  7. Do you use multiple monitors? If yes, please try launching the game on just your main screen and check if that changes anything.

If the issue still occurs. Please share a screenshot or screen recording showing the Shift + F11 stats. And log files from the time this issue occurred. These details will help us pinpoint the cause of the simulation speed drops.

  • You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind Regards,

Hello! Apologies for the delayed answer, there are some questions I can't answer at the moment as I do not have access to my computer, but I can answer some of them:

1. It is in an external drive.

3. It still disappears during freezes, and this still kept going

4. My average ping floats around 120-200 at peak times

5. I have done so before, and freezes still happens

6. This setting was always have my dedicated GPU selected.

7. Yes, but after disconnecting it as a test, the freezing still happens on the singular screen

I will try and get a new log when I have the chance, thank you for replying!

Here is a log!

it happened at around 9:05pm, as I don't have any idea how to timestamp it except looking at my clock, I exited the game once the freeze settled down.

I didn't manage to record the Shift+F11 Stats as it disappears.

Attached is the file, I can try again if need be!

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for sending the log.

After reviewing it, the game is not reporting any internal errors, simulation-speed warnings, or performance-related faults. The fact that the Shift+F11 stats disappear during the freeze suggests that the game engine is stalling at a system level, most commonly caused by storage delays.

Because the game is installed on an external drive, this is very likely the cause. External HDDs/SSDs (especially over slower USB connections) can momentarily stall, which leads to the exact symptoms you’re experiencing.

To verify, please try installing the game to your internal SSD/HDD and test again. If the freezes stop, then the external drive was the source of the issue.

If the issue still occurs after moving the game:

  • Please try again to capture the Shift+F11 advanced stats during a freeze (if they stay visible).
  • And send the latest log from that session.

This will help us narrow things down further.

Kind Regards,
