My friend can't join my game specifically, I can join him and he can join other people, but he can't join me, and we've played together when I was hosting in the past, so I don't know what the issue is, he just keeps getting server not responding

Hello Jimmy,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

The error message “Server not responding” usually indicates a network or configuration issue likely related to a local network or connectivity setup on the host/client’s side.

Please go through the steps below in order. After each major step, ask your friend to try joining again.

First, check your session and world settings:

  • Ensure your session is set to Friends only (or Public for testing) so your friend’s Steam account can join.
  • Temporarily disable any MODs on your host world.
  • Or create a fresh, unmodded world and test if your friend can join there.

Then, verify your network and firewall settings:

  • On your PC (host), make sure Windows Firewall or any third-party firewall/Anti-Virus Software allows Space Engineers and Steam for both inbound and outbound connections. You can temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus to test if that helps.
  • If you or your friend is using a VPN, proxy, or any network management software, please disable it temporarily and try again.
  • Ask your friend to try connecting from a different network (for example, a mobile hotspot or ethernet cable or Wi-Fi). If it resolves the issue, it’s likely that the client’s ISP or router is blocking the connection.

If the issue still persists after these steps, please send us the log files from both your (host) and your friend’s (client) from the session/time when the issue occurred. This will help us investigate further.

  • You (and your friend) can access the log files by typing %appdata% into the Windows search bar and pressing Enter. This will open the hidden Roaming folder. From there, navigate to; \Roaming\SpaceEngineers. The log files are located inside this folder.

Kind Regards,
