Timeout received upon connecting a separately-hosted dedicated server
Hello,
We are trying to play with some friends together and decided to host our own server, so as not to have to wait for the host to be available.
This is all good; however, I am experiencing issues connecting to the newly created server.
Before making it fully public, I am trying to test it locally, so I have 2 local LAN subnets, one is my PC and in another is my server.
Upon connecting, I am constantly reconnecting in the game with the message "connection lost", and on the SE Dedicated server console, I see only those:
2025-09-24 09:13:14.111: Peer2Peer_SessionRequest [007...814] 2025-09-24 09:13:29.103: Peer2Peer_ConnectionFailed [007...814], Timeout 2025-09-24 09:13:29.121: User left [007...814]
Any idea what could be causing this issue? In the game client, if I add the server to my favourites and click on server details, I am able to see everything, but upon connecting, the mission failed every time.
Thank you for any feedback or guidance you could provide.

Hello Engineer,
Thanks for the detailed info. It sounds like the server is running fine, but the issue is most likely related to how the connection is handled between your client and the server. Since they’re on different subnets, the game traffic might not be routed correctly, which often causes connection timeouts like the ones you’re seeing.
As a next step, please try running both the client and server on the same subnet and see if the problem still happens. If it does, could you also share the client log and server log from that session? That will help us look into it more closely.
You can access your log files by typing %appdata% into your Windows search bar and you will be redirected to the hidden Roaming folder. After that just follow: \Roaming\SpaceEngineers for the client and \Roaming\SpaceEngineersDedicated for the server logs.
In the meantime, could you also let us know a bit more:
These details, along with the logs, will help us better understand what’s going on.
Kind regards,
