FPS drops every 5 sec

Solved

In SE1 I've had the following problem:

The game has worked fine a long time, in around 1-2 months until i started having consistent crashes everytime I tried to join a server we have thorugh GTX game servers with some exceptions (without any clear idea why). With what seems luck I happened on some rare occasions to log in without a crash and be able to play and there wasn't problems during playing when I actually managed to do that. The other person I play with did not have any crashes or any problems regarding the server or the game during this time.

When trying to fix this problem I accidentely happened to change the video adapter option in display settings from one of my screens to the other (both powered by the same gpu). After doing that I started having less crashes (but it happens only rarely now) but another problem started occurring instead. I have tried to see if the problem occurs on other games aswell but it only happens in Space Engineers. The problem that is occuring now for me is the following:

Frame drops from 121 to 40-60 fps every 5 seconds consitentely.

GPU 3D spikes from 8 to 50% consistentely everytime frame drops.

CPU spieks around 10% everytime frame drops

CPU temps are normal

Other applications only take up about 3% CPU

It happens in the menu screen, in a solo game and on the server (the recorded statistics above was in the menu). Also it happens without any triggers in game.

These are the things I have tried to combat this problem:

Restarted the computer

Verfied the game files

Removed shader cache foler

Reinstalled the game

Removed the roaming folder

Used lowest graphics settings

Updated graphics drivers (the only ones that needed updating)

Removed the only overclocking I had (RAM)

Ran a full virus scans that concluded that there were no threats

Changed refresh rate settings in cfg file

Rolled back my graphics drivers

Changed back to XMP enabled

Other than that, I have tried to see if there is anything in forums or online that can help me but I can't find any one having this specific issue. Added a log file in case that helps!

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for sending the logs and details. It appears the game is currently running on an older version. Please update the game to its latest version first and check if this resolves the issue.

If the issue persists, here are some steps you can try:

  1. Reset refresh rate & V-Sync
    - Set monitor/game refresh to 60 Hz or 120 Hz.
    - Toggle V-Sync ON/OFF in-game (Options > Display).
  2. Delete config file
    - Go to C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
    - Delete SpaceEngineers.cfg (a new one will be created on launch).
  3. Force DirectX 11
    - Add -dx11 in Steam launch options.
  4. Clean reinstall GPU drivers
    - Use DDU to remove old drivers.
    - Clean install the latest NVIDIA driver.
  5. Disable overlays
    - Turn off Steam, Discord, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner overlays.

Please let us know if the stutters still appear after these.

Kind Regards,

Hello! Thanks for the answer! Actually, by some miracle after the last two updates of the game, the problem has resolved itself! So no crashes has been happening and the game is smooth again. I have played for a few hours recently and no problems has arised during the gameplay. If something would occur again, I'll make a new ticket then :)

Best regards,

Maxim
