Target lead indicator not working

Brandon Bullock shared this bug 8 months ago
Reported

Steam version of Space Engineers 1

The target will lock correctly and the lead indicator will show up however the lead indicator will not move from within the lock circle, it does not matter if I move or if the target moves the lead indicator stays in place. When controlling a turret however everything behaves as it should. The problem is only present in a cockpit with fixed weapons.

I have made a new Vanilla world on the latest patch, verified the games files, uninstalled and reinstalled the game and the problem is still present.

I hope you all can fix this problem as I am really bad at leading my shots without it.

Hello, Engineer!

We're sorry to hear you're experiencing issues.

Unfortunately we've been unable to reproduce the issue on our side. Could you please attach the world save to this thread? World saves are located in C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves. It would really help us reproduce and report the issue.

Kind Regards

Hello, Engineer!

Thank you for the provided save file. We've noticed that the grid weapons are not assigned to the toolbar. Could you please try assigning and selecting them to the toolbar and checking if that solves the issue?

Ok so that did work but not for the reason you think. So I play on controller and the grid weapons were on the toolbar however if I equip them with the controller for the first time then the lead indicator does not work. I had to unequip them with the controller and then equip them with the keyboard and mouse and it seems to work for the rest of the game session regardless of the input device used. Upon reload however, the lead indicator breaks again for controller until i equip it with the keyboard

I don't have access to the source code or proper dev tools, but I've had a quick look at blueprint files and I can see that there's now a desync between <Slots> and <SlotsGamepad>.

In the current build, adding a new block weapon type to a grid (when using a controller) only adds it to <SlotsGamepad>. In previous versions, <Slots> and <SlotsGamepad> always seemed to be identical. I can't say for sure, but all blueprints I have that predate this issue have identical values for both sets of slots, even though they were all created using a PS5 controller. It sounds like it's impacting PC players when they are using a controller too.

Since it's seemingly only controller users affected by this targeting bug, I suspect that lead indicators are either based off of the <Slots> entries, or initialised based off the block weapon types present in them.

Hope this info helps find a solution, let me know if you need any more detail on this topic. I have another ticket open in the PS5 section for this issue too: https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/playstation/topic/51312-targeting-lead-indicator-no-longer-working-on-ps5
