Singleplayer Localhosting Issues

Solved

Hello, myself and a friend have recently picked up the game again and have been trying to play together in a singleplayer world. I don't have any logs at the moment but the next time we try I will attach them to this.

This has been going on for about a week and is the first time we've had this issue, last time we played was roughly 8 months ago and we had no issues. We can join MP servers with no issues and play other games with localhosting, it's only SP SE that we have issues in. Sometimes it boots us while we are loading into the world but usually we get to the respawn screen, select a respawn point and then get stuck in streaming forever, sometimes he gets launched into the spectator cam but can't do anything.

We have tried verifying game files, restarting computers and my router (he is on apartment wifi and can't restart his), turning off and on VPNs, fully deleting SE including the Roaming files, trying a newly made blank world with no mods, planets, or asteroids and still have the issue.

Hello Engineer,

Thank you for reaching out to us on the forum.

Could you please confirm, are you currently trying to join your friend’s game via the Steam Overlay?

If so, please try the following workarounds that may help:

  1. Open Space Engineers → go to Join Game > Friends → and attempt to join your friend’s lobby from there (rather than through the overlay). This will likely resolve the issue.
  2. If the friend’s game does not appear in the Join Game screen, please make sure all players (including the host) are using the same Steam Download Region.
  • You can check this under Steam → Settings → Downloads → Download Region.
  • If players are in different regions, please set everyone to the same region as the host.

Once done, the host’s game should appear in the Join Game > Friends screen for all clients. Please check if you can then successfully join this way.

If this resolves the issue, just to let you know, we already have an internal ticket open regarding the problem with joining via the Steam Overlay here;

https://support.keenswh.com/spaceengineers/pc/topic/48996

If it does not resolve the issue, please send us the latest log files from both the host and client at the time the issue occurs so we can investigate further.

  • You (all players and host) can access log files by typing %appdata% into the Windows search bar → navigate to Roaming\SpaceEngineers.

Kind regards,
