Problems with crafting sign in quest

Hello
In a new empty world, in survival mode, i have started the quest Basic Furnishing. On step two i am asked to craft a sign. When i do it, materials are taken from inventory, sign is being crafted and disappears immediately. No materials, no sign, no chance to complete the quest.
Restarting the game and loading earlier save file doesn't help.
Please let me know if you need any other info or what can i do with it.
