can't craft even when slots available

Sometimes, I have resources available, and yet when I click on the button to craft the item, it says I don't have space available even when I'm only using maybe 4 slots. If I take an item, then it let's me do it. Or, I think sometimes even just waiting until it crafts another item, it lets me. Obviously, if I'm crafting less than 6 and I have resources either in my inventory, or in this crafting station which haven't be taken yet, I should be able to add more to the queue.
