Reverse Thrust More Effective the Forward Thrust

I have a hydrogen ship with eight forward thrusters and two reverse thrusters, all 2.5 m.
Going forward, it takes 1.5 km to reach max speed from a dead stop. (dampeners are off)
Braking from max speed, without changing the ships orientation, it takes 1.5 km to reach a dead stop. (turning dampeners on).
How does my ship manage to do this?
Most ship designs have extra forward thrusters. If there is no benefit from doing so, I'll have to adjust my design philosophy. I need to check to see if extra forward thrust makes the reverse thrusters work harder or if only the forward thrusters with matching reverse thrusters are allowed to contribute to forward acceleration,

can we have super accelerators too then? The thrust from an engine should always be the thrust of the engine. Having it suddenly massively more efficient when trying to stop the ship is more space magic, not space engineering.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the setting or what it does. Now I won't need to spend time on testing.
