Just to give credit to another post with a great idea

Scanner Tool(Tricorder w/buildinfo) by VivaVi - now in archive 19months ago.

It is probably a better idea than the one that I am making here.

I was thinking of a tool that could detect a sensor field.

You would need to swap out your current tool to use the tricorder.

The tricorder would display a sensor field within a short range and go 'beep' when one is detected.

May be it could detect warheads nearby too.

Hmm, this might be useful for boarding operations, especially for detecting traps.

It could simply be a handheld, short-range X-ray device that highlights certain blocks with markers. For example, sensors, interior turrets or other weapon systems, warheads, ammo magazines, weapon racks, and so on.

It would give you a way to detect hidden threats before entering a room, without simply making everything visible.

Could the tricorder also make a good candidate for the hacking tool as well ?

Maybe. With area hacking, you can already kinda see through walls. All functional blocks will be highlighted in range of the area hacking terminal. If there happens to be a turret or weapon magazine, you will see them. Turret will be hard to hack but at least you can spot it before it can surprise attack you.

The detection of an active device of this type must trigger the security system in “maximum paranoia” mode on the ship or at the base

And remember - the range of a (radio)locator depends on 1/R^4, while the range of a detector depends on 1/R^2!

The security system you need to build yourself. There is an event you can listen to inside EC fired each time the percentage of blocks you own on the grid is changed.
