Engineering Missions can be rather annoying. Share what you need to build before going to the area?

An issue I've been having with engineering missions is that you know what needs to be constructed only after you arrive there. This can be rather frustrating when you have an immobile base where you keep most materials, causing you to have to travel back and forth. This is especially the case for missions that make you travel from a station on the surface of a planet to space above that station.

The most annoying one thus far is the construction of surveillance satellites over dustspire station on kemik. Only once one satellite is finished, do you get to know that you have to build another one. Once that one is finished, you are told to build yet another one, causing multiple lengthy trips back and forth.

If this is a deliberate descision to slow things down, alright. To me it is just frustrating.

Other than that, I love what you have created so far and I can't wait for what the future holds!

Cheers

this is good feedback.

i would add ONE THING.

when we get to the target location, if there is an existing base that we need to add infrastructure to, we "claim" it temporarily while we build/add to it. then relinquish it to complete the contract.

this will fix issues about building on grids that already exist, and the ownership rules that currently cause a lot of drama.

I would add one thing to the one thing :
if there is an existing base
If there is one, it would be great that the base isn't detected in the green cube (i should have grind one bc 2 grids were detected...)

I remember the mission with the satellites, I thought it was a bug so I managed to grab the satellite with a landing gear and moved it to the next build location. I did this three times and then the contract was complete, I only built the grid once.

I do agree that the contract documentation should be more explicit so that you can make adequate preparations for each one.

Absolutely 100% agree and not only would i put that information up on the HUD right after you accepted a mission but already in mission briefing, so you know it's actually inside your current capabilities and don't have to aboard it again (e.g. build an assembler somewhere that needs gold threads when you haven't found gold yet).

if i could add ONE THING:

PLEASE let me unlock the blocks i need to complete the mission in a previous mission!

for example: there is this mission where you need to deliver 100t copper and 150t cobalt pretty early on (vallaris reach? if i'm not mistaken...) and it unlocks big atmospheric thrusters. mining 250t is nothing you want to do by hand, so you finally decide to build a dedicated mining ship, slap some storage on there... with small thrusters. so your building that ship (you kind of have to) in full knowledge once it's finished and you completed the mission it's practically outdated and you'll want to redesign it again around big thrusters... that's extremely frustrating.

and that's basically the theme here. the mission that unlocks big mining drills wants 350 tons of stuff, same frustration just in space this time (new mining ship needed).

the missions that have you fight against stronger and stronger enemies generally unlock the blocks you would have wanted to start the mission in the first place.

you definitely still can complete everything but i'm just thinking it's such a wasted opportunity to have fun in the game and encourage different builds and upgrades to your ship. you could plan in advance a bit, do that one basebulding mission that unlocks gatling turrets to upgrade your ship BEFORE you start fighting enemies etc.

It does seem like the reward chains are not directly correlated with the task.

Like the mission you speak of, I had to build 5 mining rigs and two vehicles before I found something that worked (Ultimately going with a two-piston-5-drill-on-a-rotor arrangement) But this is only viable if you can just get iron ore nearby.
