This is primarily inspired by the new grid system. In short, using the space now provided where solid blocks would have gone in SE1, there can now be dedicated axles, driveshafts and wheels driven by actual motors rather than by themselves. I don't think the "simple" wheels should be removed by any means- just that you can now use one motor instead, and maybe it's cheaper/more efficient/more powerful to use one instead of many? in addition, it resolves the problem of fuel- you can now make hybrids by taking a hydrogen engine and an electric one and coupling them to make a dual fuel system.
