Game Complexity Summary
I see a TON of posts both FOR and AGAINST game complexity.
- Keep it accessible for new players
- Honor the Old Guard and keep the complexity
back and forth, TONS of good ideas in both camps. ALL Valid ideas.
But, you can't please everyone. OR CAN YOU?
Make difficulty settings toggleable! Options! Difficulty Sliders! CUSTOMIZATION!!!
- Want backpack building? Enable it! Carry raw ore and go to town
- Want Ingots? Enable it! Refine the ore and store it without having to decide Plates or Tubes first
- Want stone and other waste products? Enable it! Engineer that waste disposal system
- Want creative mode? Enable it! Skip the resources entirely.
- Spread those ores out OR clump them together?
- No Suit Challenge? Go ahead. No jetpack, and you need pressurization to survive in space.
- Want machines slower OR faster? Check!
- Want larger OR smaller inventories? Check!
- Want Thrusters more complicated or expensive? Do it! Encourage those rovers
- Want Food? Yum!
- Want Lots of combat? Gear up!
Different of options could be grouped into presets with different levels of complexity.
Right now we have Survival, and Creative. Some people want Survival+ Hard Mode, and some want Cre-vival (name wip).
I will admit, personally, sometimes I love to just be free in Creative, and sometimes I want to engineer every piece of rock and force me to build rovers, rails, and rockets to get your stuff where it needs to go. TOTAL freedom is good for artists. Adding Constraints, gives you problems to solve and is good for Engineers. Both are valid. Both are needed. Just not at the same time. You can't please both in the same save file.
A LOT of this was done in SE1, or was possible with Mods. Now without those features, we feel we are missing something vital that sometimes we just can't put our finger on.
Making everyone play with the same options, and you are going to have a portion of them irritated no matter what model you go with.
I like this feedback
