Increased ship top speed via boost key

The jump up from 100m/s to 300m/s is greatly appreciated. However, for a space game, 300m/s is unequivocally still extremely slow. I understand there are concerns about maneuverability and player reaction times, but I believe I have a solution for this. Allowing ships to surpass the 300m/s speed limit (increasing it to 500, 600 or even 1000m/s), with a similar system to the jetpack boost (where you can only activate it when moving forward and you lose gyro maneuverability, at the cost of a higher hydrogen consumption) could mainly do four things:
- Reduce the amount of time it takes to travel between any two points via actual space, without the need for immersion breaking mechanics like Fast Travel or Jump Drives;
- Increase the usefullness of ships, by allowing them to travel much faster than the jetpack's top speed;
- Make for more interesting design challenges, where the player has to guarantee a higher production/storage capacity of Hydrogen to keep boosting for extended periods of time, or maybe create a deflector shield to protect against asteroids or other grids (although the multiplayer implications of this system would have to be looked at carefully);
- Create an even higher incentive to use Hydrogen Thrusters, instead of just more Ion thrusters, which, once again, creates more interesting design challenges due to the increased complexity of Hydrogen routing.
Overall, I think this mechanic would do wonders to make this Space Engineers game feel more like a Space game, and even more like an Engineering game.

I agree with this but only for in space. My preferred solution is that max speed be higher in space then it is on planets (any planet). So in space it would be good if you could travel somewhere between 600m/s - 800m/s and then on a planet the max speed drops to 300m/s. I would then want the boost option you propose to only be able to be activated with you get into space - partly because I think it would be cool to see a starship flying off a planet and then once it reaches the upper atmosphere it rapidly shoots off as you boost it.
One major benefit to this is that the planets could be put further away from each other (so they don't look so close) while not actually affecting travel time.
