REQUEST: add a water line in preparation for VS3 when water is added

We know water is coming to the game in 2027.

We also know that many diehard fans will be building massive bases and ideally would like to incorporate water features into their save once water is added.

Personally I want to build a base with a shipyard, sub pen, a canal system with working locks using the water pumps.

It would be extremely useful for all players if a line was drawn in the game where the water line is, or at the very least a line at 0 metres on the map similar to any real life map.

This would allow players to plan ahead, and start building basic infrastructure in place for when water is added.

Its not a big change, but it would be a massive help for those that do intend to make maximum use of the water addition.

I like this idea. I wonder if it would be easy for them to temporarily put a water texture over the planet so we still get some nice scenery - even if we can't actually use the full features of the water.

this is a nice idea, but it sounds like a waste of development time.. we can see potential biome differences in the existing textures of where water might likely sit.

i brifely imagined preparing a submarine base that is below sea level somewhere not sure how vents will handle water and if we will get a specific water pump sort of thing so, decided ill wait.

Wasn't sure if you were replying to me or the OP. But presumably adding a water texture over the planet wouldn't take too long - provided they don't try and actually make it work like water.

The way I would word my request would be if it can be done by giving a single developer the afternoon to get it implemented then it should be done. But if it is something that is going to take a whole team several days to do then it is definitely not worth the time.

But based on how easy it is to mod a lot of features into the game, it seems like a simple water texture that is very basic probably is not too hard to a professional to put into the game. I would not be surprised if I am wrong though.

As an aside, I think they said somewhere (probably wrong) that when water comes out we'll need to start new games also.

However, you can 'sort of' get an idea where 'sea level' is flying, since the altitude will go into the negative when you essentially cross over into what would essentially be underwater.

i recall seeing this too.

i think maybe the only time the "sea level" trick wouldnt work is for areas that are ment to be like lakes or independent water bodies that arent subject to that layer.

Yep! They definitely said we'll need to start new saves for the introduction of water. Also, we're supposed to be able to build dams and drain lakes and such, so static visual water lines would be counterproductive.
