Consolidate Welder and Area Welder
Not Enough Votes
There are 4 levels of the welder and a single level of the area welder. Sometimes you want to weld an area, sometimes you want to pinpoint a single block. Doesn't make sense to carry two tools and have to swap between them for the job.
Would be nice if area welder became a function of the normal welder, say at MkIII level, and single vs area is left click vs right click. MkIII area (right click) could give area affect at MkI speed and MkIV area could give area affect at MkII speed for example.

this is good, gives the area welder room to be improved.. i like the same tool different use, like the drill.

Now that I've played around with it I see the area welder provides an overlay of the area that is going to be welded, I suppose the R key to change modes vs left/right click might make more sense.

I just completed the Blueprint contract for VS 2.3, and I came here to suggest this same thing - because the area welder is pretty much mandatory to complete it. I don't see how you could get all the little blocks in behind the outside blocks without one.
Totally agree - LMB, normal welder. RMB, area welder. And the Mk levels could increase its radius. Starting really small on the Mk1 would be fine.

Honestly I like not having to have to press and hold different buttons just to make the welder not do dual duty. I could be convinced if it was a "switch" (Press ";" to switch welder between single and area) but I think the welder is cool and the different Area welder is even cooler. I don't always want it though and I like having specific tools for the job.

I agree the current way to weld an entire ship blueprint is impossible without an area welder because the projection system makes it extremely hard to weld without deleting or remove projected blocks just to get to blocks behind them. it makes building a ship in creative than blueprinting it than attempting to build it in survival is a near impossible act without the area welder.
the area welder solves this problem completely, the current system needs to change, MK1 welder should work like it does now, Mk2 let you weld the block you are welding and 1 block in each direction, mk3 welds two block in each direction. The area welder being an end game welder make no damn sense! It should just be built into the current welders, it's the better option. Why they didn't do it this way is just stupid to me.
The other option is give us the ability to let the projector ONLY show the WELDABLE blocks.

I don't understand why they needed a separate tool for this? Why couldn't they just make different operating modes for the highest tier of a regular welder?
And the projection system in general needs some improvement. At the very least, it needs a function to only display the blocks that can currently be built, like in the first game. Because aiming at a small block through others can be very difficult.

Agreed, but i think the RMB to area weld wont work well because the area welder has its own welding preview thing, so what would need to be done is have RMB clicks toggle the mode between single and area with LMB always being what you use to actually weld.
