Breaking(slowing) field
Not Enough Votes
I am building a carrier and I would like it to have the ability to slow the smaller vessels down when they come into land, a sort of force field catch net or set of consecutive nets. Each field net decelerating the incoming vehicles a little more, one after the other.
At present the artificial gravity generators do not act upon vessels, and I would like this breaking system to work in natural gravity.
This would offer a higher margin of safety between the vessels, allow for faster landings or deal with vessels that have lost breaking thrust.

I am sure that a block system that had this feature would have other applications.

Tractor beam?
Tractor beam?
4Peace - Not necessarily... It would be possible to use the rails and components designed for MAGLEV.
But I also see this as a backdoor for introducing physical nonsense like tractor beams and/or energy shields

I am on a build of a docking/maintenance bay, if the bay had the slowing field it would give peace of mind when vessels are coming in to dock.

this is an awesome idea.... if we arent given tractor beam type blocks (which would have huge power consumption btw), next best thing would be setting up the gravity generator to have a damnpner option. and anything entering the damnpnging field effected by it.
set it up near the entrance to the hanger and set the size of it so that the longer ships are in it (the ones heading all the way to the back) are slowed down more. that way you dont have to think about it too much just get the ones that have lost that breaking thrust can just go straight in first, and the ones with more control can excersize it as they approach and dock near the entrance/exit of the hangar bay.
*edit*
ohh afterthought, you can have the most thourough engineering set up on the deeper end here, as the ones with lost thrusters are likely to also have more damage to them that require more repair. so this would be a way to triage which ships need more repairs as well. the ones closer to the exit are likely less damaged, and more readily availible for new missions.
