The essence of my suggestion is to let players communicate with each other from their ships, and also to make communication with NPCs more atmospheric.

Idea description:

Add these functions to the cockpit: create a voice communication channel, create a text communication channel, broadcast a message.

1) Create a voice or text communication channel:

In the cockpit settings, there will be a section called "broadcast". To create a communication channel between two ships, they need to be in direct line of sight, or both have active antennas. To create a channel, open the control panel and in the cockpit settings, in the "broadcast" section, click "create voice communication channel". Then the player will see all possible structures they can contact (either structures in direct line of sight, or structures with active antennas, if the sender has an antenna). After that, the receiving player will see a window with a message: "Player1459 wants to establish a communication channel. Accept? YES/NO"

If the player accepts, a private text/voice chat between the players will open. It can be used, closed, or reopened only while in the cockpit (or control seat).

2) Broadcast a message:

In the cockpit settings, in the "broadcast" section, there will be a line: "enter the message you want to broadcast" and a button: "broadcast message". Maximum message length: 100 characters.

When you press the button, the message will be broadcast to all cockpits within antenna range or in direct line of sight from the cockpit. In the "broadcast" section, you can read the last received message and also find the sender's coordinates.

Why this mechanic is useful:

  • Improved interaction between players
  • Improved interaction between players and NPCs
