Group/team/squad NPC behaviour

Thought I would throw this one out there.
It is good to see the early days of NPC behaviour trees.
The wild imagination of mine prompted thoughts of NPCs engaging in team sports, on the basis of NPC leisure time.
This led me to think of group behaviours and goals that could be co-ordinated in a purposeful way.
So I wondered if there will be any consideration given to NPCs operating in groups strategically, with individuals given roles within the group to diversify behaviours for tactical advantage.
This could apply to fleet behaviours as well as characters.

Formations or loose positioning, rotations....point/position/station manning...delegated objectives.
Hmmm...
..and then there is abandoning/leaving the group or legitimate personal retreat.
Stand to the last man....what are the odds?....yes/no.
