Rigid Rotor-Lock
One of the coolest uses for rotors is for off-angle panels. These rotors are positioned initially, and then rarely needed to move again, except possibly for repairs. It would be really nice if there was an option for rotor-lock (and piston-lock too) that made them the same physics object as the main grid, so there would be no jittering of the panels.
There could be a requirement that the head needs to be stationary relative to the body for locking (like SE1's convert-to-station) or even both being stationary relative to the world if that's needed to avoid jank of adding the mass to the main grid.
Bonus points if thrusters on locked subgrids can be used by the main grid.
Bonus bonus points if airtightness can be maintained between subgrids with negligible gaps.
I like this feedback
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion rotor and piston jitter on static builds is a known pain point, especially when they’re used as permanent structural elements like angled panels.
We understand the idea behind a “locked” state where subgrids behave more like a single stable physics object, and this is something we’ve discussed internally in broader terms around improving subgrid stability and usability.
No concrete plans to share yet, but feedback like this is very helpful for shaping where we look next.
Thanks again for taking the time to write it up.
