Destroyed block replaced with holographic projection
Not Enough Votes
Hi, this may be on the roadmap somewhere as a blip I haven't seen, since I haven't seen if there are plans for anything like the SE1 projectors (since blueprints can be dropped anywhere without them), but I'd like to see a mechanism where a destroyed block (from anything but friendly owner tools) on a grid gets replaced by a hologram indicating a) that something in that spot is missing and b) what exactly was missing so that a repair worker or auto welder can put it back fairly easily.
I like this feedback
I guess the core question on this feedback is if the classic SE1 projector blocks are planned and if they will function in a similar way. If not, then how does the current hologram build method work with things like ship welders for automatic ship repair. If a block on a ship is completely destroyed, what is the planned SE2 method to allow an auto repair welder to put the correct block back in the correct place?

I'm not sure I like an auto repair function, maybe in the control panel you can toggle repair ship and the missing block blueprints b would appear to rebuild the ship

By auto repair, this is specifically ship based welders.
This was a core concept of SE1 projectors, to allow ship welders to automatically repair parts of the ship.

It might be that this is a case where you could make a block that is a 'damage control projector'. In this case, you build the block and at that point you go to the control panel and tell it to set the 'undamaged state' of the ship. This essentially stores an internal blueprint inside the block based on the ship, and any blocks that are damaged or missing are flagged by the damage control computer. I should be able to look at that control panel and see a list of damaged blocks and it should project the blueprint for any missing blocks so they can be replaced with functional ones.
The current system relies on the memory and perception of the engineer to determine if something is missing. I just noticed after 2 days that a corner on the front of my ship was missing from some fly-by strafing from an unknown signal I got too close to. There should be an easy way to determine if something is missing/damaged and in need of repair or replacement
(yes, it's Saturday and I'm bored as I fly to Echelon station, 3 hours to go : )
