A distress signal is picked up with static chatter about a crash. A GPS location is added to the players map. When the player arrives at the location they come up to a civilian spaceship crashed into an asteroid. Upon searching the wreckage you find:

- No NPC bodies

- No evidence of weapons used

- The captains log indicating they were being pursued by a ship that was not responding to radio transmissions and appeared to be a pirate ship.

- It appears this pursuit is what caused the crash.

Data on the crashed ship includes a new GPS location of where the pirate ship started following this ship. the player should go to the GPS location to see if the survivors are there or to take out the pirates who did this.

The player arrived at a makeshift asteroid base where a Pirate ship is docked. The player is able to safely approach the base. However, after entering the building NPC’s begin firing at the player with small arms. There are maybe 5-10 NPCs the player can defeat in the base.

(There should be a trigger that will cause the NPCs to stop firing, such as the player not shooting back for 20 seconds and not having killed any of the NPCs, or maybe the player can try to initiate a dialog with them.)

The catch: after defeating the NPCs (or not, if the player can calm the situation down) the player can enter the furthest room (or talk to the NPC that were shooting) in the base, which is a medical room, where you find the survivors of the first crashed ship being tended to for their wounds from the crash. The leader of the survivors then tells the player how this makeshift base was made by a group of stranded adventurous whose jump drive had broken. The adventurers ship was running low on fuel, and their radio was broken.

When the adventurers saw the original civilian ship fly by they knew this could be their only hope, so they pursued the ship and were trying to get within viewing distance to wave them down, but the civilian ship crashed. The adventurers then brought the survivors back to their makeshift base.

The adventurers thought that you (the player) was hostile because there had been a lot of pirate ships passing by recently, so they opened fire.

The base is made from scrap parts and pieces of ships. The adventurers felt the asteroid provided shelter, resources, and some cover to hide from real passing pirates. The dead adventurers (or not) had bought the ship off the black market for cheap and were advised to re-pain it in civilian colors, but they had not. This is why the civilian ship crashed, they thought it was pirates so they were running away.

The reward: negative colonization points if the adventurers are dead, positive if they survive. Plus a tangible reward.
