Cockpit Buttons have no Affect (with an A)

When you press a button in the cockpit, you can't tell if it did anything. There's no way to look at the buttons and see what is going on.
e.g. Button is set to toggle a thruster on and off. Look at button. Press button. Note zero visible change in button. Rotate view of ship to note that it did in fact turn it off and on.
