Invisible Asteroids in planetary shadow

I have an 'issue' during space travel in the shadow of a planet - there is no way to see or detect asteroids that are also in the shadow - and I end up flying into them at high speed. BOOM!

I know this is realistic in terms of lighting and space travel, BUT, there is no way any craft would travel in a hazardous environment without some sort of navigational aid; Radar or some other detection or collision avoidance system is essential.

Given that adding a system like this is not a simple solution, could it be set so that 'dark' space is never truly dark, ie all objects in space have at least some level of lighting so that they may be spotted and avoided.

This would stop endless crash - reload - travel - cycles during 'night' phase - I have no issues when the sun is visible, asteroids are usually easy to spot and avoid. At night however...
