Expanded AI Faction Warfare Modding Support (Long Term SDK Request/Question)

I wanted to suggest and ask about long term modding support for larger scale AI and faction warfare systems for Space Engineers 2.


One of the most popular areas of modding for Space Engineers 1 has been Modular Encounters Systems and other similar frameworks. These mods have done great to try create more living worlds with factions, threats, encounters and NPC's etc.

However, I know they are limited by engine and API restrictions of SE1, which prevents deeper systems that would be just amazing to see such as:

faction territory control

AI fleets that can patrol, reinforce, retreat and respond to threats and also use strategy.

NPC factions fighting each other independently away from the player

Proper layered warfare such as carriers, logistics ships, and supply chains

Diplomacy and reputation systems that can effect AI behaviour

Dynamic proper frontlines and siege mechanics for planetary bases (this would be really cool)


SE2 seems like it could possibly be capable of these things through mods or even in the game with more being added to the modding SDK as the updates go by.

Anyway my question/request is this; will/could the SDK be capable of doing this for modders in the future?


I believe it would be very beneficial for replayability and emergent storytelling, away from the planned campaign. Coop PvE would be an incredible aspect to see. The game would feel even more alive.
